⚠️ATTENTION ALL CONSUMERS⚠️
Recent changes to Section 232 tariffs are about to drive significant price increases across the HVACR supply chain. Here’s what’s changed and why it matters.
What changed:
President Trump signed a proclamation changing how tariffs are applied to imported products that contain steel, copper, and aluminum. As a result, many HVAC systems will now face tariffs of up to 25% on the full value of the product.
At the same time, a key incentive has been eliminated. Previously, U.S.-origin metals were exempt from tariffs, encouraging domestic sourcing. That exemption was removed, meaning even products made largely with American materials can still face higher tariffs.
Why it matters:
It is not feasible for HVACR products to meet rigid thresholds like 95% U.S. metal content across every input. Many products that previously faced effective tariff rates around 8% could now see rates climb closer to 25%.
Higher tariff costs will move quickly through the supply chain as we enter peak cooling season, raising prices for distributors, contractors, and ultimately homeowners and businesses.
What you can do:
We need policymakers to act and prevent unnecessary price increases. Urge Congress and the administration to exempt HVACR products from Section 232 tariffs and restore policies that support domestic sourcing without increasing costs.
