We never know when severe weather will happen, but we do know that it happens ever year in the months of Jan-July and again around Sept-November time frame. That is a whole lot of chances of severe weather. Heads up Green Country!

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this evening across southern Kansas before moving into northern Oklahoma during the evening.

The primary threat will be damaging straight line winds, with isolated large hail also possible.

Storms are expected to organize into clusters or line segments as they move southeast, with areas generally along and north of Highway 412 having the best chance of seeing severe weather this evening.

Friday night storm chances are back in the forecast.

While Friday won’t be a washout, we’ll be watching for thunderstorms to develop to our north and northwest during the evening before gradually drifting into parts of eastern Oklahoma overnight. The greatest chance for stronger storms currently appears to be near the Kansas border, with the risk decreasing farther south toward the Tulsa metro.

If storms hold together, the main concerns would be:

* Gusty to damaging wind
* Hail
* Frequent lightning
* Heavy downpours

It’s still several days away, so expect some changes in the exact timing and where the strongest storms track. We’ll continue to fine tune the forecast as newer data comes in.
