Severe storms are likely today across parts of the Central Plains, Ozarks, Southeast and parts of the High Plains. Across the Southeast, a cluster of storms moving into Tennessee will eventually move southeast into north Georgia, northern Alabama and north Mississippi produce damaging winds through the day. Additional storms are expected to develop later this afternoon from Arkansas into Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee as very hot and humid conditions create extreme storm energy. Some of these storms may organize into larger clusters capable of widespread damaging wind gusts and hail before weakening by tonight. In the central High Plains, storms are expected to develop along the Colorado foothills during the afternoon and spread into western Kansas during the evening. Some storms could become supercells capable of producing very large hail and a tornado. As storms merge into larger clusters, the risk for damaging winds will increase and a brief tornado cannot be ruled out. Some of these storms may make it into northern Oklahoma tonight. Farther north, scattered severe storms are also expected across southeast Wyoming, the Nebraska Panhandle and southwest South Dakota with large hail and damaging wind gusts as the primary threats. Wish this weather would make up its mind!

It’s looking like we may see different late/overnight squally weather from both sides! Different models are showing different storm complexes approaching Green Country late Monday into Tuesday.

We don’t know exactly which scenario will unfold, but it’s worth mentioning. If we get storms moving through, we will likely see a wind threat and maybe some small hail. It all depends where tonight’s storms end up and what storms are where tomorrow morning through the daytime hours.

We will be monitoring the model trends and checking back in with new data.

May is typically very active with tornadoes in the Sooner State but so far this May NO tornadoes in Oklahoma! Since 1950, the only May without a tornado was in 2005. Let’s hope this streak continues through Sunday🌪️

Chased Oklahoma yesterday and gave up before sunset cause storms were garbage. Checked into our hotel and then saw the light changing as a storm developed to the west of Blackwell, so we grabbed our cameras and got east of town and holy crap. The lightning show was absolutely bonkers. Needed a photo like this one as 2026 has been a major struggle so far.

STORMS AFTER 9 PM

Storms developing to our northwest will try to move toward eastern Oklahoma later this evening, mainly after 9 PM.

The good news: they should be moving into a less favorable environment as they get closer, so a gradual weakening trend is expected. The SPC continues to highlight the better severe storm setup farther northwest, especially across Kansas into northern Oklahoma, where damaging winds and large hail are the main concerns.

For eastern Oklahoma, this does not look like a big severe weather setup at this time. A few storms could still produce gusty winds, heavy rain, lightning, and maybe some small hail before weakening.

We’ll keep watching radar trends this evening, but right now the main message is: storms may move in late, but they should be weakening as they arrive.

This would be about right. Sad to say, but May usually throws us a Big one every few years!

EXTREME STORM ENERGY is building ahead of the dryline in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas this afternoon! This is some of the highest storm energy we’ve seen this season in the region. If storms form, they’ll produce severe weather due to the storm energy and wind shear. Favored areas to see the most significant storms are north of I-40 and west of I-35 in Oklahoma, into Kansas. More isolated but still severe storms south of I-40 and west of I-35 in southwestern Oklahoma and northwest Texas. 4:15PM Central
