We hosted with Texas Children's Hospital this year to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by antimicrobial resistance and stewardship. Team members and experts from across the industry shared their stories of how they are bringing together diagnostics, experts, and workflows to improve patient care.
The most inspiring moment came when a young man shared his story about how phage therapy finally allowed him to have a heart transplant. For years, Eugene and his mother struggled to stabilize his health enough for that transplant. Today, he is thriving!
This story highlights the value of differential diagnostics and precision medicine in patient care and shows that change is possible when we work together to fight .

Evaluating a potential central nervous system (CNS) infection is always a race against time.

Empiric therapy often begins while clinicians work to narrow a broad differential that includes bacterial and viral causes.

The BIOFIRE® FILMARRAY® Meningitis/Encephalitis (ME) Panel is designed to detect multiple CNS pathogens from cerebrospinal fluid in approximately one hour. Within the broader workup, it adds organism information earlier in the evaluation process.

Manual blood culture loading takes time and attention throughout the day.

The BACT/ALERT® VIRTUO® system is designed to automate routine handling and support 24-hour delayed entry, helping reduce manual workload.

When repetitive steps decrease, teams can stay focused on results and patient care.

Detecting pathogens earlier can influence sepsis management.

A published evaluation of automated blood culture systems found that BACT/ALERT® VIRTUO® has the potential to detect pathogens earlier across bottle types. Earlier detection may support faster management and improved sepsis outcomes.

Prosthetic joint infections (PJI) present a growing clinical and economic challenge as hip and knee replacements increase nationwide.

Traditional diagnostic pathways may involve multiple samples and several days of waiting. Culture results can be negative in 10% to 30% of cases, complicating clinical decision-making.

The BIOFIRE® Joint Infection (JI) Panel uses multiplex PCR to detect 31 pathogens and eight antimicrobial resistance genes from a small synovial fluid sample in about one hour.

Read the article to learn how syndromic testing is advancing the approach to PJI diagnosis.

Last year, we shared that the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) granted New Technology Add-on Payment (NTAP) status to the VITEK® REVEAL™ AST System. Now, we've made it easier to navigate the process with a new NTAP coding and billing resource.

NTAP may help hospitals offset certain early adoption costs for eligible Medicare Fee-for-Service inpatient cases while supporting access to advanced antimicrobial susceptibility testing technology.

Other information includes:
• Understanding how NTAP may allow for additional payment and support conversations between the laboratory, coding, CDI, revenue integrity teams, and hospital leadership.
• Learning about the applicable ICD-10-PCS code for VITEK REVEAL to inform documentation requirements.
• Seeing illustrative examples of how NTAP may be factored into specific Medicare Fee-for-Service payment case considerations.

NTAP designation for the VITEK® REVEAL™ AST System is currently effective through September 30, 2026, and has been proposed to be extended through September 30, 2027.

Diagnostics, Data and Stewardship: Measuring What Matters

How do antimicrobial stewardship programs measure meaningful impact beyond antimicrobial use metrics?

Join Brittany Rodriguez, PharmD, BCIDP, FPIDS, for a discussion on the evolution of inpatient antimicrobial stewardship and diagnostic stewardship programs.

Drawing on practical experience and lessons learned from leading health systems, the session explores:
• How inpatient antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship programs have evolved over the last decade
• Evidence-based strategies that integrate diagnostics, data insights, and multidisciplinary collaboration
• Best practices for applying stewardship principles within care pathways
• The role of timely, targeted diagnostic testing in supporting inpatient care decisions and outcomes

Join us for this discussion on the intersection of diagnostics, stewardship, and data, with a Q&A session at the end. This webinar is P.A.C.E.® accredited.
