My tables may seem like overkill. But I want them to last for generations. The damage to table joints is cumulative. So if a table joint is weak every time you bump into it it will distort. Over time this will cause the table to fail.

For those who are curious about the wood table I destroyed here are the specs.

The skirt is made of 3" x .75" cherry hardwood. And is attached to the Baltic birch table top with 15 self-tapping screws.

The corners of the skirt are attached with six self-tapping screws and wood glue.

Leg: The leg is made from Maple hardwood and is attached with 1/4"-20 threaded inserts and 1/4"-20 furniture bolts

I believe things should be built to last. This goes beyond making goods that are durable. It's so important to plan for repair and refinishing when designing products. This is how we can make things that won't just last a long time but can look beautiful and be functional after heavy use.

Furniture should last for generations not break in a few years

11/25/2025

I have been on a quest to create the highest quality tables I possibly can. Creating a really good leg joint was the most important problem to solve. It needed to be easy to assemble and super strong.

Have assembled furniture and felt frustrated by confusing directions and little parts that break?

I developed a new way to build tables.
Over the last 5 years I made 16 physical prototypes
Using every spare week and dollar between custom furniture jobs to pull this off.
When I perfected all the details. I was ready to create a line of ultra high quality tables.

I invented a new table top material that can be repaired even after significant damage
it called Metallic hardwood made from wood, epoxy and metal
This is so much thicker than a normal wood veneer.
That's only 1/64”, about as thin as your fingernail!
When I hit the edge, the veneer splinters and the MDF cracks
Where as the metallic hardwood stays together
now we are testing the durability with a flower pot, rock and water
That wasn't enough, so I took the samples for a ride down a rock pile
These look bad,
But can I bring them look brand new?
I am starting with 120 grit sandpaper.
The scratches disappear from the metallic hardwood.
But when i sand the thin veneer I burn through before I can sand out the scratches
Let's wipe of some finish and compare
The metallic hardwood looks brand new while the thin veneer is completely destroyed.
The edges are chipped and sanding through the veneer looks terrible
The key to making a table last for generations is easy repair and refinishing so

Have you tried to refinish thin veneers before?

Furniture always structurally fails at the joints. This is where all of the stress gets concentrated. Sturdy tables are tricky to design because tremendous torques are applied where the legs attach. This is why almost everything table you bump into wobbles.

I designed these joints to be as strong as possible. The corners are fully welded. The legs are attached with 4 massive 3/8" bolts

The top is bonded to the sub frame with a structural epoxy. I used adhesive joint design principles developed for aerospace to ensure that these joints were properly designed.

It WORKS!!!!!! I have spent 4 years developing a system for making ultra-quality table tops from steel. This was the first time I tested my system out on a full scale table and it worked beautifully. This system allows me to create a table that would normally take weeks in just days. This creates a pathway for me to build a scalable hyper-sustainable furniture company.

And I am obsessed with the waxed mill scale finish. It has this incredible depth of color and grain that is only possible with natural materials.

The goals of this project are simple. Build tables that bring the highest value to people who use them and are ultra sustainable.

This table can last for centuries, and is made of steel which is one of the most recycled materials on the planet.

All of the joints are designed to withstand the highest impact forces that a human body can generate. So even after generations of use and dozens of moves, the legs will be tight and rigid.

The surface finish on the top is mill scale; an oxide layer that's formed when red hot steel is exposed to the atmosphere. This surface finish is so hard, that I need to use diamond narratives to remove it when prepping welds.

Thanks for the incredible shots!

Concept design is my favorite part of my job. It's so much fun to make a loose and flexible CAD model to play with then see what forms emerge. I start jobs by sending a client a few quick conceptual models to choose from. When they choose their favorite, I dive into the engineering and fabrication details.

Which one is your favorite?

This console table felt like a massive milestone in my furniture building journey. I designed and built this table in under 3 and a half hours.

In that time, I achieved upper limit quality and a level of durability that will last centuries.

I feel so fortunate to be designing furniture at a time where the rules of manufacturing are being rewritten by accessible robotic laser cutting and sheet metal forming.

If you have a laptop and a CAD program you can build super accurate and strong steel structures with processes that were previously only available to extremely large companies.

Thanks to for the parts

And thanks for for helping me make it perfect
