My tables may seem like overkill. But I want them to last for generations. The damage to table joints is cumulative. So if a table joint is weak every time you bump into it it will distort. Over time this will cause the table to fail.
For those who are curious about the wood table I destroyed here are the specs.
The skirt is made of 3" x .75" cherry hardwood. And is attached to the Baltic birch table top with 15 self-tapping screws.
The corners of the skirt are attached with six self-tapping screws and wood glue.
Leg: The leg is made from Maple hardwood and is attached with 1/4"-20 threaded inserts and 1/4"-20 furniture bolts
