A true physician‑innovator, Dr. Leininger transformed modern wound care through his pioneering work and founded Kinetic Concepts, Inc. (KCI) in 1976 after identifying critical gaps in patient care as an emergency room physician. His development of breakthrough solutions, including Vacuum‑Assisted Closure (V.A.C.) therapy, redefined how complex wounds are treated worldwide.
Under his leadership, KCI grew into a multibillion‑dollar enterprise while helping position San Antonio as a national center for medical innovation. His impact extends far beyond one company, with decades of investment in healthcare advancement, workforce development, and entrepreneurial growth.
