At a minimum your HVAC system need a pre-season preventative maintenance tune-up before the peak of demand. While your aging system may be running, it may be consuming more energy than necessary due to its condition, age or efficiency level. Running an unmaintained a/c or heating system will cause your utility bills to be higher due to increased effort needed to function. The benefit of a pre-season checkup is to identify parts that are weak or under performing and to repair or replaced them before they go out and cause a mid-summer meltdown.

Think about having your car serviced. They look at belts, filters, batteries and items that can show wear and damage, same is true for your HVAC unit. When identified and repaired/replaced in advance, chances of a system outage are greatly reduced.
