We want to thank Chad and Lisa Harthan for sharing their inspiring story with our team and HBond Foundation interns, “Turning Survival Into Purpose: A Journey Beyond Cancer”.

As a cancer diagnostics laboratory, we know that an acute leukemia diagnosis can be life-changing, not just for the patient, but for the family as a whole. Chad shared how surviving acute leukemia as a young child shaped his life, and how his mother bravely stepped up to be his Patient Advocate as they navigated through difficult next steps and treatment decisions.

Today, Chad Harthan is an incoming MBA Candidate at ChicagoBooth and Blood Cancer United Ambassador. He is involved in the Dare to Dream Project, which powers the creation of safer, more effective treatments for kids with blood cancer.

Our team first met Chad at a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraising event years ago, and we could not be more proud of the young man he has become.

❄️ Don’t forget to use cold packs for specimen transport, ensuring they are not placed in direct contact with the specimen. Using ice packs correctly ensures reliable, high-quality results and minimizes the risk of recollection. This applies not only to fresh specimens but also to paraffin-embedded slides and tissue blocks, which can be damaged by high heat.

⏱️ To our clients and partners in care, we strongly recommend that all specimens be shipped to CorePath within 72 hours of collection. Don’t hesitate to reach out to our Client Solutions Team if you are in need of additional supplies (including ice packs). We’re here to help!

Meet Rizwan Mahmood, a third-year medical student from Arkansas Colleges of Health Education and our latest Track A intern! 🎓🔬

https://youtu.be/aWbaQ6W0rmc

Rizwan joined us to master the diagnostic spectrum, from hands-on histology and cell culture to the complexities of flow cytometry and scope review. He got to see how technologies like FISH and Flow are real, functional tools rather than just abstract board exam questions. 🧬✨

Check out his experience to see how CorePath’s HemePath Hub meets future pathologists exactly where they are in their training to solidify residency goals and inspire future lab directors.

YOUR VOICE MATTERS: Medicare local coverage determinations (LCD) shape whether patients can access medically necessary diagnostic tests (including new and innovative technologies and tests) and flawed processes can delay or deny care.

Bipartisan legislation, the Timely Access to Coverage Decisions Act (HR 8500), is currently gaining traction on Capitol Hill. The bill would strengthen transparency, restore appropriate stakeholder input, and help ensure coverage policies are developed and finalized in a timely, evidence-based way.

We invite you to take action to find and message your legislators, urging them to support HR 8500 and help improve Medicare coverage policy-making for patients and pathologists.

The College of American Pathologists () has made it incredibly easy: Simply use the link below to automatically generate and send a message to your legislators. The form writes the message for you after you enter your information in the blue box; just review, edit the first line, replace “pathologist” with your job title, and click submit by using the form below.

BONE MARROW PROCEDURE TRAINING: The latest session of CorePath’s 2-Day National Bone Marrow Clinic Training Program has successfully come to an end.

During this program, participating providers spend Day 1 at our state-of-the-art facility in San Antonio, TX, learning from the Medical Director of the Bone Marrow Clinic and Training Program, Dr. Bridget Herschap. Participants learn about the anatomy and equipment needed for bone marrow procedures, including the do’s and don’ts of obtaining optimal specimens, and understanding the specimens’ testing journey throughout our lab.

Day 2 takes place at Cadaver Lab SA, a local bio skills training facility where providers gain valuable hands-on experience and guided technique refinement in a setting that closely resembles real-world conditions.

We are proud to recognize the following providers for participating in this session:

🔸Bridget Reddington ( - New Jersey)

🔸Kacie Wallace ( - Texas)

🔸Vasily Ovechko, MD (Preferred Anatomic Pathology Services - Louisiana & – Galveston, Texas)

Our own Anatomic Pathology Scientist Hui Lynn Yan and HemePath Hub Student Rizwan Mahmood also participated in this training session.

Special thanks to the team (Lorena Kieser, Ronnie DeSheles, Nico Cruz) for our continued partnership and commitment to providing accessible medical education opportunities that advance and improve the patient experience.

🩸 Did you know? Bone marrow procedures are critical for diagnosing hematolymphoid neoplasms, including myeloid disorders, leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other diseases. Optimal specimen retrieval and preparation are essential for fast and accurate diagnosis, yet there are few training opportunities available to practicing providers for this type of procedure.

➡️ Training info for future sessions available on our website via link in bio
