A flexible mindset is important in space exploration.
Schedules are notoriously fluid with lots of moving parts and setting your mind on one scenario will likely lead to disappointment. In fact, the day before I launched on my third mission, I was told there was a chance that my June return would be pushed to September. So I chose to have a happy, flexible mindset. If I went home in June l'd be happy and if I went home in September l'd be happy.

Alexei Leonov performed the first ever spacewalk today
in 1965. It was surreal meeting this space hero who was not only kind, but a captivating storyteller!

When I left NASA I didn't think I would ever fly in space again. But just 5 years after retiring, I was given the opportunity to go back to space through Axiom Space and commercial spaceflight. Life is full of unexpected surprises and it has taught me to never say never!

It's important to document spacesuits both before and after a spacewalk. With safety as priority number one the ground team constantly monitors any type of damage, wear patterns, or possible future issues. The photos serve as a proactive measure, but can also help identify the root issue of a problem. During a 2013 spacewalk astronaut Luca Parmitano's helmet filled with water and the detailed suit photos helped identify that a clogged filter was the issue. It's extremely important we take every precaution to keep our astronauts safe in one of the harshest environments imaginable!

It has been more than 40 years since the first person from India, Poland, and Hungary has been to space and through this commercial space opportunity we are accelerating the national space programs in each of these countries. This will not only create new pathways for technological advancements, but it will inspire a whole new generation of young people!

Today is NASA's annual Day of Remembrance and the beginning of a tough week in spaceflight history. The tragic loss of the three crews is a constant reminder to learn from our mistakes and remain committed to safety and innovative exploration. May we continue to honor their memory as we continue their mission - to learn, explore and inspire.

After conducting 21 investigations into human life and microgravity sciences on my first long duration spaceflight I was named the first NASA Science Officer, a lighthearted nod to the Star Trek character Spock who served as the Science Officer on the USS Enterprise. Live Long and Prosper

For a long duration flight picking out your food is one of the most important things. It may not seem important on the ground but once you are on , a rigorously scheduled environment, it's one of the few things you get to choose. After my first flight I understood how important it was and spent extra time picking out my future space meals.. and thinking about what sauces I could add to jazz them up - in orbit it's all about the sauce!
