This is a really cool design. My client had been cutting these bit shanks for horses by hand. I can only imagine how long it took him to keep the tolerances. This is our first round at prototypes. I will match it up against his original and see if we hit a home run on the design.

First attempt to waterjet cut Whiskey staves. It was pretty challenging trying to maintain the desired cutting head height. The aroma overpowered my metal filled space. I think I might take up whiskey drinking. Lol. .

The effects of cutting titanium. Pretty cool to watch. Wouldn’t you agree?

How A Design Concept Evolves.

A client calls me on a Friday afternoon who needs a concept designed, approved, and waterjet cut by Monday. When he has to ask “are you busy?” Deep down inside I know he needs my help.

The most challenging part is getting the right “feeling” for the concept. The second challenge is getting it approved.

We talked, he gave me ideas, sent me photos of Christmas ornaments and sketched me his vision on the white board. I never turned down an idea no matter what it looks like. One idea leads to another.

designed the Star using various ideas as you can see in the photos.

When I sent it to my client, I said “I know this is non-traditional for your client and it’s a little “edgy” but it feels right.” Let me know what she thinks. My client was a little uncertain but sent the concept anyway.

Can you believe it? She loved it and it was approved!

When the City of San Antonio lights up the 30’ Christmas Tree in Travis Park, you will know the rest of the story. .
