It had the largest teeth of any animal that has ever lived on Earth.

36 centimeters long. Longer than your forearm. And unlike any other whale — it had them in both jaws. Top and bottom. Interlocking when the mouth closed like a trap.

Livyatan melvillei was a s***m whale. But not the kind that eats squid in the dark. This one hunted other whales. It used its massive square forehead to generate focused sonar bursts powerful enough to stun prey before attacking.

It shared the ancient Pacific with Megalodon. Scientists have found their fossils in the same geological layers. The same ocean. The same time.

Two 17-meter apex predators — one with bone-crushing shark teeth, one with the largest animal teeth ever measured — hunting in the same water.
