Along Highway 33 in Maynardville, Tennessee, Boulderscape® turned two highway retaining walls into natural rock formations you'd swear were always there.

For TDOT's CNW068 walls, the goal was long-term structural performance that still belonged in the folded shale country of East Tennessee. The solution: high-performance structural shotcrete beneath a hand-sculpted architectural shotcrete finish engineered to disappear into the native geology.

In a single system, our crew placed:
• 8″ structural shotcrete section
• 1–3″ hand-carved architectural relief
• 22,364 sq ft of reinforced wall surface

Every square foot was hand-carved into our Weathered Shale finish and custom-stained on site to match the surrounding rock — structural engineering and stone artistry in the same pass.

In Strongsville, Ohio, Boulderscape® refaced a run of existing cast-in-place walls into a striking geological feature. Our crew drilled and epoxied dowels into the original concrete, tied in a heavy wire-mesh reinforcement, and placed a fresh layer of structural shotcrete locked tight to the wall.

When Bellevue Hospital needed an attractive face for the large soil nail wall shoring its parking-lot expansion, Boulderscape® delivered a Bellevue Ashlar finish — easy on the eye, more economical than the alternatives, and fast enough to keep the job on schedule.

Our artisans hand-carved oversized ashlar stones — 12 to 30 inches each — scaled to keep perfect proportion across the wall, then tied it together with a weathered earth-blend stain drawn from the colors of the hospital itself.

For its new Ridge Walk Living & Learning Neighborhood, UC San Diego wanted retaining walls that read as natural, layered stone across the campus. When becomes part of the game.

At Camden Yards in Baltimore, one of the most iconic ballparks in America, Boulderscape® delivered a structural shotcrete solution where performance, speed, and fan-facing finish quality had to work together seamlessly.

To extend the left field outfield, the project required a soil nail shoring wall capable of retaining fill while presenting two distinct finish standards—one structural, one architectural—within an active stadium environment.

In just 6 days, Boulderscape installed 8” and 12” thick structural shotcrete wall sections, completed all required formwork and chamfer details, and applied two distinct finishes to meet functional and audience-facing needs. The outer face received a sponge float finish, while the side facing attendees was completed with a smooth steel trowel finish.
