Every 3 minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with a blood cancer; more than 1.3 million Americans are living with or in remission from a blood cancer. Together with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, we want to recognize September as Blood Cancer Awareness month and highlight the importance of lifesaving research in this field. Cytologics is dedicated to supporting scientists worldwide who are on the front line of developing new treatments such as CAR-T and CAR-NK which are transforming the standard of care for patients suffering from blood cancer.

March is Multiple Myeloma Awareness Month. In the U.S., approximately 140,000 people are living with or in remission from multiple myeloma. The past 15 years have brought significant advances in diagnosing and treating this blood cancer, but we still have much work yet to do. The need to reduce disparity gaps and improve access to clinical trials for medically underserved, under-represented patients is a vital aspect of multiple myeloma awareness month. Cytologics fully supports researchers developing practical, scalable solutions to the real-world challenges of improving quality care delivery for patients with multiple myeloma.

A recent study published in Cell Research illustrated the potential of donor-derived CAR-T cell therapies for the treatment of T cell malignancies. Although further investigations are needed to optimize antitumor efficacy and persistence, this study moves the field closer towards the goal of universally accessible off-the-shelf CAR T cell therapies.

A recent bioinformatics study on monocyte gene expression suggests that bacterial invasion of epithelial cells, platelet activation, and the vascular endothelial growth factor signaling pathway represent the most significant processes linking periodontitis and atherosclerosis.

This information may form the basis for further research to determine biomarkers for risk assessment and implementation of preventive measures to lower risk of cardiovascular disease development in patients prone to periodontal disease.

The data may also be valuable for researchers to identify targets for developing novel therapies for periodontal and cardiovascular diseases.

A growing body of scientific evidence points to the monocytes as the key to understanding the direct and indirect relationships between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease
