Trefoil was formed on a simple hypothesis: harness the capabilities of fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) to solve a wide range of anterior and posterior corneal diseases.

Our Chief Executive Officer David Eveleth and Chief Medical Officer Mark Packer, MD, recently sat down with Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today to explore the path that led to the discovery of the role of FGFs, and the process behind TTHX1114.

Jessica is a seasoned scientist specializing in novel molecular techniques. She spearheads the research of TTHX1114 to explore its regenerative, protective and vision-restoring properties.

In addition to her Leaders of Influence in Life Sciences recognition from the San Diego Business Journal, Jessica’s recent accomplishments include research that contributed to the submission of an Investigational New Drug Application to the FDA, poster presentations at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) annual meeting and several published studies in peer-reviewed journals.

We’re proud to have Jessica’s leadership and research contributions as we develop our lead investigational candidate, TTHX1114.

💭 Cataracts are a leading cause of blindness.

However, can have troubling side effects, such as oxidative stress, which can lead to vision impairment and even blindness.

Our investigational therapy, TTHX1114, is designed to provide protective benefits to corneal endothelial cells and prevent oxidative-induced cell death.

Congratulations to Dr. Michael Blaber, Trefoil co-founder, on his retirement from Florida State University (FSU).

Dr. Blaber joined FSU in 1994 as an assistant professor in chemistry. In the years since, he pioneered the research of Fibroblast Growth Factor 1 (FGF1) in his lab, securing 5 patents for FGF1 mutations and contributing to more than 185 published studies.

Dr. Blaber paved the road in biopharmaceutical proteins, and we thank him for his remarkable contributions to the discovery and development of FGF1. While he’s retiring from FSU, we look forward to his continued contributions on Trefoil’s Scientific Advisory Board.

: by age 80, more than half of all Americans either have or have had cataract surgery. Following surgery, some people experience swelling, also known as edema, in the endothelium that can slow or stop the healing process.

Positive results from a Phase 2 study show that TTHX1114, our lead investigational candidate, protects and supports the healing of the corneal endothelium following cataract surgery.

Researcher Spotlight 🌟
At the recent meeting, Thomas Tremblay, Vice President of Clinical Development, presented data that demonstrates the importance of identifying and better understanding the factors that could influence the outcomes in clinical trials.

People with Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy often have other comorbid conditions that could affect the results of clinical trials, therefore it’s imperative that we attempt to design better and more efficient trials that minimize the number of people required and obtain more accurate results.
