We are so excited to feature our final Demo Day 2024 presenter! This company was founded in 2013 and helps home service professionals thrive. Housecall Pro offers an industry-leading SaaS operating platform combined with modern financial services and supporting business solutions, helping Pros run all aspects of their business. They serve more than 45,000 HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Cleaning, and other field service businesses.

Housecall Pro has been in the news a lot this year. The first that we will mention came in May as a partnership announcement between Housecall and Force Fleet Tracking. In this, the two introduced new dashcam and integrated video telematics service for business fleets. This expanded partnership builds on the success of the highly rated integrated Vehicle GPS Tracking service which the companies launch in March of 2022. Also in May of this year, Housecall Pro launched their inaugural virtual summit to empower home service professionals. The event took place May 15-16 and offered sessions from industry experts and product leaders. Pros learned how to work smarter and boost revenue by streamlining business processes such as scheduling, dispatching, invoicing, marketing, managing employees, and more. During the Summit, Housecall Pro debuted a session detailing its pioneering use of the AI Team that's ready to work for your business, which they formally announced later that same month. With the introduction of the AI Team, Housecall Pro users will be able to "hire" AI-enabled specialist roles, including a business coach, analyst, customer service representative, marketer, and product assistant. AI Team members will be introduced in phases, allowing pros to bring on specific skill sets tailored to their needs.

Here is another Demo Day presenter feature as a sneak peek of the program! Biolinq has created a new Biowearable experience by using an array of electrochemical sensors so small you can barely feel them. Their metabolic health sensors work together to provide maximum reliability for continuous sensing applications. With the potential of multiple analytes such as glucose, ketones, and lactate, Biolinq provides an entirely new user experience with actionable metabolic health insights. Over the next 10 years they intend to bring Biosensing and Biowearables mainstream.

Biolinq recently announced the completion of $58 million in financing led by Alpha Wave Ventures, with participation from Niterra’s corporate venture capital fund jointly operated with Pegasus Tech Ventures and existing investors RiverVest Venture Partners, AXA IM Alts, Global Health Investment Corporation, Aphelion Capital, Senvest Management, Features Capital and Taisho Pharmaceutical. The financing will support completion of a U.S. pivotal clinical trial this year, evaluating Biolinq’s proprietary intradermal glucose sensor, and subsequent FDA submission.

The next Demo Day feature is a graduate company revolutionizing wide usage of thermal imaging to improve and save lives. Obsidian Sensors is a developer of a glass microelectromechanical system (MEMS) designed to manufacture automotive sensors. The company's system uses infrared imaging for applications like security cameras and autonomous vehicles, enabling clients to get incumbent silicon MEMS-based sensors easily.

Obsidian was recently in the news in partnership with Quanta Computer. This partnership was prompted by a recent safety standard ruling from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which has mandated autonomous energy braking (AEB) systems on all new cars from 2029. The two firms saw a major market opportunity for high-resolution thermal imaging sensor technology to help protect pedestrians at night. Obsidian’s vision for a future of better safety features is supported by Qualcomm Ventures, Hyundai, Hyundai MOBIS, InnoLux, and Himax.

In case you haven’t been keeping up with the Demo Day 2024 news, we are so proud of our list of graduate company presenters. This is our fourth feature, and in this one we are highlighting the impressive upstart semiconductor company, Syntiant. This company is a developer of neuromorphic semiconductors designed to move artificial intelligence and machine learning from the cloud to edge devices. The company's semiconductor produces ultra-low-power, high-performance, deep neural network processors for always-on applications in battery-powered devices, ranging from hearing aids to smart speakers and mobile phones, enabling experts to develop artificial intelligence technology for the sensor, voice, and video applications in almost any battery-powered product.

Syntiant is an EvoNexus Portfolio Company out of our Irvine incubator. A great example of a use case for Syntiant’s low-power chips is used in Alexa-connected products ranging from hearing aids to ear buds, watches, cellphones and laptops for what are called “always-on” battery-powered devices. Their low power “wake word” offering received Amazon qualification to be used in the Alexa systems. Syntiant is backed by some of the world’s leading tech companies, including Intel Capital, Microsoft M12, Bosch Ventures, and the Amazon Alexa Fund.

Carlsmed is the next Demo Day preview. This venture is the developer of a spinal implant device and medical system designed to improve outcomes and decrease the cost of healthcare for spine surgery. The company leverages machine learning technologies and prior outcomes data to personalize the treatment of complex adult spinal deformities, enabling the medical community to improve surgical treatment of patients with adult spinal malalignment.

Recently it was announced that in the Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System Final Rule for fiscal year 2025, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) assigned spinal fusion cases with aprevo® custom-made anatomically designed interbody fusion devices to the highest level of the new spinal fusion Medicare Severity-Diagnosis Related Groups (MS-DRGs) it created. The new assignments and payment rates are favorable and will start on October 1, 2024. Earlier this year, Carlsmed released clinical data on its aprevo® custom-made anatomically designed devices. The data, which was published in the Global Spine Journal, concluded that the use of aprevo® devices in spine surgery enabled an improvement in achieving post-operative alignment. Prior studies have shown that achieving optimal alignment during spine fusion surgery is highly correlated to reduced complications.

Our next Demo Day presenter feature is a company passionate about disrupting the world of desktop computing. Brelyon is an MIT spin-off introducing the first-ever, headset-free virtual display for gaming, entertainment, and enterprise applications. The technology uses novel physics with optical and computational techniques to create true depth and panorama, replicating a cinema-like experience in a 32” monitor form factor. Their goal is to provide display solutions that elevate your experience with computers.

Brelyon was in the news for their 2022 strategic cooperation with LG Display under which Brelyon integrated LG Display's P-OLED technology into its ultra-immersive, virtual monitors. The companies served the rising large format gaming and productivity sectors with a solution that far supersedes anything the world of monitors has seen before.

Another impressive partnership was their 2022 collaboration with Lockheed Martin, wherein Brelyon showcased Brelyon’s Ultra Reality™ paired with Lockheed Martin’s F-16 Pilot Training Aid at I/ITSEC, the largest training and simulation tradeshow in the United States. About the partnership, EvoNexus Co-Founder & CEO Rory Moore said: “In just three years the company was able to create its system that demonstrated the potential for a new experience in immersive interaction that could go across many sectors. As a pilot with over 40 years of flying experience, I naturally gravitated to training as a use case for the system. Their partnership with Lockheed bears out my initial belief.” In late 2023, the company raised $15M in venture capital funding led by Lockheed Martin Ventures and the MIT-affiliated E14 Fund with participation from Corning Incorporated, LG Technology Ventures, UDC Ventures, and Franklin Templeton.

All our Demo Day presenters are late-stage companies that have graduated from the EvoNexus incubator program. The first company we are highlighting is set to produce high resolution and high-performance components for customers worldwide.

Fabric8Labs, Inc. is revolutionizing metal additive manufacturing with its advanced 3D printing technologies. Founded in 2015, they are working to broaden the market for metal additive manufacturing across all industries. They recently announced the close of a $50M Series B investment round led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA), with participation from existing investors, including Intel Capital, imec.XPAND, SE Ventures, TDK Ventures, and Lam Capital. The new infusion of capital will be used to scale the company's proprietary Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) technology and establish a pilot production facility.

Fabric8Labs was also recently in the news announcing a partnership with Asetek that could redefine the liquid cooling industry. At Computex 2024, these two innovative companies unveiled the AI Optimized Cold Plate, a pioneering solution in liquid cooling technology designed to push the boundaries of performance and efficiency.
