When one shot is all you got, make sure you do it right. Here are 5 critical tips all pros should know before applying Sikalastic 720 One Shot. π
π‘ PLAN FOR EFFICIENCY
Assign roles like mixing, pouring, squeegeeing, backrolling, and spot-checking before you start. Read and follow the instructions for mixing exactly - DO NOT skip or rush this critical step! 720 One Shot will start to cure in the pail as soon as it's properly mixed, so it's important that your crew is organized and works efficiently.
π DETAIL STRATEGICALLY
Coat upturns, verticals, and edges before larger horizontal areas. Never work directly out of the pail; it significantly shortens pot life. Instead, pour into smaller buckets or along the base of verticals as you work to prevent premature curing.
β
THE RIGHT SQUEEGEE MATTERS
The right squeegee can make or break the job. Use a heavy-duty neoprene V-notched squeegee that yields 30β45 mils. The Easy Squeegee (40β45 mils) is an ideal choice for consistent thickness and performance.
π§ POUR ALONG THE WET EDGE
Always pour freshly mixed material in a ribbon fashion along the wet edge of the previously applied material and immediately follow with the squeegee. This method of "blending" ensures consistent coverage and thickness throughout, creating a seamless monolithic coating.
πͺ MASTER THE BACKROLL
Correct backrolling technique is critical for an even distribution of the integral texture. Installers should work parallel to the squeegee as well as perpendicular. One final backroll following behind the squeegee should "erase" the marks - if you see squeegee marks after backrolling, you missed a spot.
β¨ BONUS TIP: CHECK AS YOU GO
Use a mil gauge to check thickness throughout the job. The aggregate is meant to show through the coating while wet when distributed correctly. If the aggregate sinks below the surface, then the coating was applied too thick.
