New year, new place!

Meier Concrete, Inc. is officially moving our San Diego team to a new office after 3 years at the Ponderosa Ave location in Kearny Mesa.

Our new space — now under renovation — is centrally located in the Sorrento Valley area, positioning us even better to serve clients and vendors throughout San Diego County.

We’re excited to share a first look at the progress. Great things are coming at Meier!

Rain — Why Communication Matters

Sometimes the choices made before a storm determine whether a project stays on schedule—or loses weeks.

We were set to place a 15,000 SF slab on Monday, January 22, 2024. A forecasted storm bringing nearly 2 inches of rain threatened the methane-rated waterproofing system beneath the slab—something that cannot be compromised without major repairs, reinspections, and delays.

Instead of waiting it out, we met with our GC early and laid out two options:

Option 1 — Place on Saturday (OT + logistics)
• Early pour ahead of the storm
• Accelerator admixtures
• Some risk of remedial finishing
• Benefit: Protect the membrane and keep the schedule intact

Option 2 — Wait until Monday
• Risk of standing water and membrane uplift
• Contaminated seams and penetrations
• Softened subgrade requiring rework
• Certified installer repairs + reinspections
• Potential delay: 1–3+ weeks

After reviewing costs and risks transparently, we agreed to split Saturday OT and any remedial work.

Ex*****on & Outcome
We placed the slab before the storm, completed most finishing ahead of the rain, and addressed a small remaining area on Monday and Tuesday without affecting the critical path.
Because of this single proactive decision, the concrete scope finished two months early.

A few months ago, our Tenant Improvement team took on something new:
our first project with Gray West Construction — and our first BMO Bank.

New partners. New client standards. A tight TI schedule.

Exactly the kind of challenge that tests whether your systems, people, and field ex*****on are truly dialed in.

And the team delivered.

From sawcutting and trenching, to coordination with MEP trades, to final concrete finishes inside an active retail environment — every step was executed cleanly and safely. The result?

A successful turnover, on schedule, and continuing our 100% project completion record.

For us, this project is more than a bank build-out.

It marks real growth in our TI Division and the beginning of a strong partnership with the Gray West team. We’re grateful for the opportunity and proud of our crews for setting the standard on our very first BMO.

Final slab at Radius is officially complete ✅

Nine 8-plex pads poured, every milestone hit, and every slab placed on schedule. A strong introduction to the production housing market for our team, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with Lennar on this community – bringing 72 homesites to the city of San Marcos, CA.

Kindred Cortez Hill – First Suspended Slab Pour

This one was a close call. Exactly three months from foundation start, our team raced to complete the first suspended slab pour on Level 2 at Kindred Cortez Hill.

It wasn’t easy — our crews and management team pushed through critical RFI responses, coordination meetings, and last-minute design adjustments right up to the day before the pour. Working closely with Rockwood, VCC, and the design team, we found real-time solutions that made this milestone possible — just in time before the projected rains hit later this week.

Hitting key dates like this is essential to our mission: getting in, getting out, and making our committments. Proud of our team for grinding through the challenges and keeping the momentum strong.

As we mark Veterans Day, we’re reminded of the values that drive progress on and off the jobsite — discipline, teamwork, and commitment under pressure. To all who have served and continue to serve — we thank you. Your example inspires how we build every day.
