Nielsen Construction California is Superintendent based – each of our superintendents average over 30 years of building and managing construction projects in Southern California. Their skill and excellence is evidenced by numerous awards including several Superintendents of the Year, by their track record of completing projects under budget and ahead of schedule and most importantly by the satisfaction our clients have with their completed projects. We are proud to say that we have worked with the majority of our clients for many years. Over 90% of our clients are repeat clients – clients with whom we have worked as they repeatedly turn to Nielsen Construction for their building needs. Making strong progress at the SDSU Calexico Student Housing project. Exterior work is nearing completion and interior spaces are coming together with final finishes and furnishings in place. 🏢
This project is projected to reach completion around the end of July 2026, and we’re excited to see it come to life for future students. 🛠️

Some of the best nature centers don't just sit in nature. They're designed around it.

As summer kicks off and hiking plans take shape, we're remembering the Santa Ysabel Nature Center, a facility born from a shared commitment across the entire project team to let the land lead. San Diego County's first rural nature center, the 6,000 SF single-story facility was sited and structured around ancient Engelmann oaks and natural features already defining the landscape. The outcome is a LEED Gold, Zero-Net Energy building that feels woven into its surroundings.

Structural highlights included:

- Light-frame timber construction, minimizing building mass and material impact on the surrounding environment
- Prefabricated roof trusses spanning large, column-free interior spaces supporting flexible exhibits and assembly spaces
- Foundation placement coordinated around tree protection zones, keeping structural elements clear of the root systems of mature, protected oak trees
- An interpretive exhibit space, a conference room, and an outdoor amphitheater carved into the natural grade

We’re remembering what's possible when sustainability and preservation are at the foundation of a project, and happy to see even more of this happening six years later.
