Many buildings that upgraded to LED years ago may still have a significant energy savings opportunity.
We’re seeing compelling results upgrading existing LED fixtures with integrated high-low occupancy sensors, particularly in garages, stairwells, and common areas.
Especially in spaces like:
Parking garages
Stairwells
Common area hallways
Many of these fixtures operate 24/7, at full output continuously.
Modern fixtures with integrated sensors automatically dim to a lower setting when unoccupied, while still maintaining code-required light levels for safety and egress.
When motion is detected, they instantly return to full output - providing full light output only when needed.
This ensures safety and compliance—without wasting energy lighting empty spaces at full brightness.
The impact can be dramatic.
In recent project modeling:
Garage fixtures showed ~70% energy reduction
Stairwell fixtures showed ~89% energy reduction
(see # models below)
This is the power of hi-low occupancy sensors, combined with newer LED (higher efficacy) solutions.
Paybacks vary, but in PG&E territory we are seeing well under 3 years. Layer in PG&E $0 down, 0% interest financing and it becomes a very compelling value proposition.
That's our MO - delivering value. This is excites us!
If you own or manage a facility with LED fixtures in garages, stairwells, or hallways that run continuously without occupancy sensors, it's definitely worth taking another look.
Happy to share what we’re seeing and run the numbers for your facility.
