In summary, learning to code equips girls with the necessary skills to pursue an amazing career in the field of technology, and they will have a whole load of fun along the way! Despite these benefits and opportunities, however, there is a notable lack of women pursuing a career in computer science. There are of course barriers and setbacks that make it more challenging for girls to engage with coding and computer science. MakePi’s contribution, as far as breaking down the barriers, involves providing tools and educational resources needed to encourage an interest in coding. And we want girls to get involved as much as possible.

According to the US Department of Education, only 16% of American high school seniors are proficient in math and interested in a STEM career. Why are these statistics alarming? Because, as reported on by LiveScience, an estimated 8.65 million workers will be needed to fill STEM-related jobs by 2018. Certainly, high-quality STEM education is needed to fuel progress and development in the US and help fill those jobs.

Hello and welcome to the Facebook home of MakePi — one of CES 2018’s top 15 start-ups of the year!
In a nutshell, MakePi is a STEM education start-up committed to improving STEM education across the globe.
The MakePad story all began with one simple mission — to make the learning of code possible for everyone and to equip students with 21st century skills. We are also proponents of the ‘maker culture’— a movement which encourages a DIY approach to designing, building, creating and learning.
With these objectives firmly in mind, the team at MakePi set about designing a simple and intuitive DIY tablet that would effortlessly teach coding to kids as young as five.
And the MakePad was born…
The MakePad is different from what’s currently on the market in three key areas— ease of use, affordability and accessibility. Indeed, the MakePad is interactive, self-explanatory and easy as pie to operate. The inbuilt Raspberry-Pi based processing technology offers serious processing power at a fraction of the cost. Internet is not required to operate the device, meaning that it’s more accessible to more kids, especially to those in developing or isolated areas.
With the MakePad, children throughout the world will be learning how to code, making music and creating games in no time at all!
