Another quarterly meeting in the books!

Every quarter, the JWDCI team comes together to share company updates, make sure we’re all moving in the same direction, and enjoy some team bonding.

This quarter, we held the first annual Camp JW 🏕️— complete with a barbecue, field games, a couple impressive wipeouts, and a “friendly” water balloon toss.

We value the time we get to come together as an entire team, connect outside of our day-to-day work, and have a little fun while we’re at it. Already looking forward to the next one!

50 Years of JWDCI | A Look Back at Downtown San Luis Obispo

As we approach 2027, JW Design & Construction’s 50th year in business, we’re taking time to reflect on five decades of building.

Today we’re looking back at Downtown San Luis Obispo and some of the projects that have shaped the growth and evolution of our community.

📍 2003 | Palm Street Parking Garage
One of the earliest projects on our downtown tour, helping support a growing and evolving Downtown SLO.

📍 2006 | Court Street
JW constructed the entire Court Street development, creating a new destination for shopping, dining, and gathering downtown. The project also included the build-out of the original Giuseppe’s San Luis Obispo location.

📍 2016 | Monterey Street Retail
Retail spaces along Monterey Street that added to the mix of shops and businesses in the heart of downtown.

📍 2019 | Hotel San Luis Obispo
A major hospitality project bringing a new hotel, restaurants, gathering spaces, and amenities to the historic district.

📍 2024 | Santa Rosa Mixed-Use
A mixed-use development that transformed the site with new commercial space and included the build-out of Lure Fish House.

📍 2026 | San Luis Square — 581 Higuera Street
The next chapter of downtown living, featuring new condominiums and commercial spaces in San Luis Obispo.

📍 Under Construction | Monterey Crossing Apartments
A new residential development being built with the Housing Authority of San Luis Obispo, continuing JW’s work to bring new housing opportunities to the community.

📍 Coming Soon | San Luis Square — 590 Marsh Street
Another addition to the San Luis Square development as JW continues building for the future of Downtown SLO.

For nearly 50 years, the places we’ve built have become part of the communities we call home.

Looking back at Downtown San Luis Obispo, we’re proud to see projects spanning decades, uses, and generations—and grateful to the clients, partners, craftspeople, and community members who have been part of that story.

Construction is moving forward at the Monterey Crossing Development in San Luis Obispo.

We’re proud to partner with the Housing Authority of SLO on this housing development that will provide much needed homes for individuals and families.

This development requires a high level of coordination, and we’re grateful for the collaboration of our team, trade partners, and stakeholders as we work together to bring this vision to life. Construction is progressing well and we look forward to sharing updates as the development continues to take shape.

A.T. Still University’s College for Healthy Communities is bringing its mission of whole-person healthcare and innovative education to San Luis Obispo, and we’re proud to help make it happen.

JW Design & Construction is transforming the former Mindbody headquarters into ATSU-CHC’s new home, creating a space where future healthcare professionals will learn, grow, and serve their communities.

And yes, the iconic Mindbody slide is here to stay!

We’re honored to be part of this next chapter.

🌟 What it feels like to realize a vision four years in the making! 🌟 This structure is the result of a long, sometimes dramatic, effort that started in 2022. This is where food moves from the field into the community—washed, packed, and prepared for families, schools, and our farm stand. It will allow us to scale production, maintain quality, and actually get more local food into people’s hands. It also allows more space for our education programs to expand—we aren’t washing and packing vegetables in our outdoor classroom anymore!

SINCERE GRATITUDE to our funders for this project: California Department of Food and Agriculture , the folks at AgWest Farm Credit , and the generous individual donors who helped build this new hub for our farm community.

This structure took four years of work and a very dedicated team working through ups and downs and the challenges involved in pulling this off just *days* away from our grant deadline. A huge thanks to the folks that worked on this project:

JW Design & Construction is proud to have completed a small but impactful project for City Farm SLO. This new wash-pack pavilion fills a critical need and will support their daily operations and educational programs for years to come.

City Farm SLO is an incredible nonprofit empowering the next generation of SLO County kids through sustainable agriculture and hands-on learning 🌱

We’re excited to celebrate alongside them at the Grand Opening and 5th Annual Sheep Shearing Shindig on May 9th!

We’re excited to announce our partnership with HASLO on Monterey Family Apartments, a new development on Monterey Street that will bring 105 affordable housing units to our community.
In addition to housing, the project will include a parking garage and ground-floor commercial space to support local businesses and enhance the neighborhood.
