Taking a look behind the scenes at a massive project from our portfolio! ✨

This 60,000 sq. ft., 68-unit multi-family affordable housing community features beautiful residential spaces, a vibrant community center, and a ton of moving parts. Our team pulled double duty on this one, providing both the Civil and Structural engineering from initial design through construction.

Here is a snapshot of how our civil and structural teams brought this build to life:

🎨 Art Meets Engineering: We engineered a custom foundation for the on-site public art installation featuring three 8-foot-tall steel figures.

🧠 Thinking Outside the Box: When the soil threw us a curveball, our structural team designed a specialized post-tension mat foundation to keep the buildings rock-solid.

🌱 Eco-Friendly Extras: From designing a 1,000 sq. ft. bicycle and laundry facility to setting up EV charging areas and a smart stormwater management system, we kept sustainability top of mind.

🤝 The Ultimate Team Sport: A project this size requires constant pivoting. Our civil team worked around the clock updating grading plans for ADA compliance, navigating tricky utility re-routes, and making sure the entire site flows perfectly.

It takes a village to build a village, and we loved collaborating with the architects, contractors, and city teams to deliver these homes. 🏡💻

Role: Structural Project Engineer in Middleburg Heights, OH
Ashley & Vance Engineering is looking for a Structural Engineer (EIT required, PE preferred) with a B.S. or M.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering and 2–5 years of experience to perform analysis and design across wood, steel, masonry, and concrete structures.

In this role, you’ll design structural systems for commercial, multi-family, custom home, and industrial projects while preparing calculations and construction documents. You'll do it all alongside a supportive team, backed by perks like flexible scheduling, 100% covered health options, and a 5% 401(k) match.

We handled both the civil and structural engineering for the Discovery Corner Live Work Townhomes in Bend, Oregon, and we couldn’t be prouder to see this project get the love it deserves.

From big-box retail to heavy-duty manufacturing! 🛠️

When BASX moved into a former Walmart building in Redmond, Oregon, they didn't just move in. They gave the massive space a complete, high-tech transformation.

We teamed up with BCA Architecture to turn the old retail giant into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. The expansion features a sleek new warehouse with a distinctive saw-tooth roof, plus a custom two-story office building attached right to the south end.
Our favorite part? Bringing the engineering details to life with beautifully exposed trusses, custom steel connections, and a seamless flow from the creative office spaces straight onto the production floor ⚙️

It is amazing what you can do with a little vision and a lot of steel! 📐

Our Cleveland office at Ashley & Vance Engineering had the opportunity to hit the course and participate in this year’s AIA Cleveland Golf Outing! It was a great day of golf, good conversations, and connecting with architects and other professionals throughout the Cleveland AEC community.

Events like this are a great opportunity to step away from the office, strengthen existing relationships, and build new connections within the local design and construction community. We’re proud to be part of the growing Cleveland AEC community and look forward to continuing to build relationships throughout Northeast Ohio.

There is something uniquely satisfying about seeing 7,000 square feet of high-end engineering come together. We utilized a mix of concrete shearwalls and moment frames to pull off those massive, wide-open living areas without sacrificing an ounce of structural integrity. From the 1,100 sq. ft. basement to the custom Kalwall system and signature staircase, this project was a massive undertaking that we're proud to have on the books. A solid build from the foundation to the privacy walls.

Take a look at this recently finished San Luis Obispo estate! Featuring a porte-cochère (a grand covered driveway entrance for vehicles), over 4,400 square feet of single story luxury living space, a detached private guest house, and an ultimate backyard oasis featuring an inground pool, spa, and cold plunge space. Ashley & Vance handled the complex structural engineering behind this beautiful home, making sure the complex hillside foundations and custom retaining walls perfectly supported the gorgeous architectural vision.
