One of the most frequent questions we receive about kitchen remodels is how to ensure your new countertops look exactly the way you envision. The secret? Hand-selecting the exact stone slab!

We recently installed this stunning, high-contrast countertop featuring striking gold veining and dramatic quartz details. Instead of just picking a general style from a tiny sample, we encourage our clients to visit a stone yard. This allows you to choose exactly where the boldest patterns and veins will sit on your kitchen island. As you can see, this dark stone contrasts beautifully with the home's lighter accent walls and cabinetry.

When planning your next kitchen upgrade, always ask if you can pick your specific slab for a truly custom, show-stopping finish.

We recently had the chance to transform an outdoor space and wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look with you. One of the most common questions we get is how to make a composite deck look perfectly clean and finished. On this project, we used a high-quality Trex decking product and opted for the screw and plug method. This completely hides the fasteners, giving the surface a seamless, flawless look that holds up beautifully over time.

To complete the design, we will be adding custom cedar handrails with openings on each side for easy access. Combining the low-maintenance durability of composite boards with the natural warmth of cedar is a great way to elevate your outdoor living area. If you are planning a deck build soon, definitely ask about hidden fasteners for a professional touch.

We recently had the pleasure of installing some gorgeous vintage light fixtures for a client, and it reminded us of how much character antique pieces can bring to a modern home. However, blending the old with the new comes with its own unique set of challenges.

One of the most common hurdles is figures out how to securely attach antique fixtures to standard modern ceiling brackets. It often requires a bit of problem-solving and custom adjustments to ensure everything is safe and secure. The good news? You usually do not need to fully rewire the fixtures, but getting them to flush-mount correctly takes patience.

We are also getting ready to install some matching wall sconces and a vintage ceiling fan to complete the look. If you are planning to add antique pieces to your space, we are always here to help bridge the gap between historic charm and modern installation.

We are frequently asked how to optimize indoor living space without sacrificing essential utilities. On a recent spec home, we decided to rethink the traditional water heater placement. Instead of taking up valuable attic or interior closet space, we built a dedicated utility closet accessible from the carport.

To ensure performance and safety, we heavily insulated the space with spray foam and are installing a heater and fan to regulate temperatures year-round. This setup houses the main water inlet, the water softener loop, and the water heater in one convenient, protected exterior location. While this was a special request for this build, it is a great example of how a few square feet of exterior space can free up significant room inside your home.

We often get asked how to balance traditional aesthetics with modern construction efficiency. One of our recent custom builds in Bastrop, Texas, provides a great example. This home features a striking limestone chimney that many assume is a full masonry build.

In reality, this is a wood-burning fireplace housed in a metal unit, then expertly wrapped in a Texas mix limestone. This approach allowed us to give the homeowners the bold, rugged look they wanted while maintaining the practical benefits of a metal fireplace system. By extending the stone from the interior out through the exterior wall, we created a massive architectural feature that anchors the home’s design. Whether you are looking for a full masonry look or a modern hybrid, the right stone selection and placement make all the difference.

Why We Choose 6x6 Cedar Posts: Better Support & Beautiful Natural Finish
We’re back on-site checking in on these cedar posts, and I have to say, there is nothing like the look of natural wood to tie a home into its surroundings. While the original plans for this project called for standard 4x4s, we decided to upgrade to these 6x6 cedar posts at the client's request.

It’s a change we always recommend if you’re looking for that extra bit of "wow" factor. Not only do the 6x6s offer superior structural support, but they also have a much bolder, high-end presence that smaller posts just can't match. We’re taking extra care to keep these clean during the build so that the natural grain really shines. If you’re planning a porch or deck, don't be afraid to go bigger—the visual payoff is worth it every single time.

The Hidden Value of a Clean Job Site

Why does it matter if a construction site is tidy? While some might see it as a secondary concern, maintaining a clean workspace is a direct reflection of a builder's standards.

When a site is kept clear of debris, it ensures a safer environment for every trade involved. More importantly, it impacts customer perception. A homeowner walking into a messy site may worry about the quality of the work hidden behind the walls or in the attic. By keeping the yard and interior organized, builders demonstrate a "high bar" for excellence that carries through to the finished product.

Investing time in cleanliness isn't just about aesthetics; it's about professional accountability and respect for the client’s future home.

When building a new home, timing is everything. A common question is when to install the roof. While shingles or panels can be installed early in the process, many builders wait until the structure is dried in to ensure the interior is protected from the elements.

In this project, a metal roof with hidden fastener panels was chosen for its durability and sleek look. Because these panels are custom-cut to fit the home's specific dimensions, they can take about a month to arrive once ordered. Planning for this lead time is crucial to keep the construction schedule on track. Once the measurements are finalized and the order is placed, the installation can typically begin within a few days of delivery. Proper coordination between the roofing team and the general contractor ensures a smooth transition to interior work.

Small horizontal windows are an excellent way to introduce natural light into a home without sacrificing privacy or wall space. A common question for homeowners is where these windows work best. They are ideal for bathrooms, particularly in showers, as they provide light while maintaining a private environment. They also serve as a great architectural feature in living rooms and bedrooms.

Another frequent query is whether these windows are functional. These specific models are operable, meaning they slide open to allow for ventilation on nice days. They also come equipped with screens, so you can enjoy the fresh air without worrying about insects. Whether you are looking for more light or better airflow, these "skinny" windows offer a practical and stylish solution for home designs.

Thinking about incorporating large fixed glass windows into your home design?

One of the first things homeowners ask is if these windows can be opened. Fixed glass windows do not open, which means they are not intended for ventilation. However, this design allows for much larger panes of glass without the obstruction of heavy frames or hardware.

The primary advantage is the amount of natural light they invite into a space. They are particularly effective in areas like the front of the home or a kitchen breakfast nook, where you want an unrestricted view of the outdoors. Because they don't have moving parts, they offer a clean, modern aesthetic and can be more energy-efficient. If your priority is a seamless view and a bright interior, fixed windows are an excellent addition to any build.
