The "Year of the Used EV" is Here: What it Means for Your Property
As of January 2026, we are seeing a historic shift in the automotive market. A massive influx of roughly 330,000 off-lease electric vehicles is hitting the used market this year. This surge is making EVs affordable for a much wider audience, with many models now priced under $25,000.
For local businesses and property owners, this is a major foot traffic driver.
Data shows that the average EV driver stays on-site for 42 minutes while fast-charging. During that window, 89 percent of drivers make a purchase, spending an average of $42 per visit.
Why act now? The federal 30C tax credit, which covers up to 30 percent of installation costs, is set to expire on June 30, 2026. Additionally, new building codes in states like California now mandate EV charging for many commercial properties.
Whether you manage retail, multi-family, or commercial space, providing DC fast charging is becoming a baseline requirement for high-value tenants and customers.
