It has been a busy week at AltaSea—and we wouldn't have it any other way.

This week, more than 400 students walked through our campus, learning, exploring, and preparing for future careers. From hands-on workforce training to mentorship and internship opportunities, AltaSea was buzzing with activity and inspiration.

Our partner and tenant, Dynamic Education, welcomed students into programs focused on skilled trades such as welding, framing, and plumbing—equipping the next generation with practical skills that lead to meaningful careers.

We also kicked off our Summer Mentorship Program, connecting young people with professionals and leaders who can help guide their educational and career journeys. And we're excited to welcome our newest group of summer interns, who are already getting to work across our campus and programs.

These moments reflect what AltaSea is all about: creating pathways to opportunity, fostering innovation, and investing in the next generation of leaders, makers, and problem-solvers.

We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to serve as Field Trip Guides and Docents at AltaSea.

No matter your background, you love learning, sharing, and connecting with people, we’d love to have you.

About the Role:

Field Trip Guides & Docents help lead school groups and the public through AltaSea’s exhibits and partner areas, sharing short, scripted facts about the displays and ensuring visitors have a fun, safe, and educational experience.

This role is ideal for volunteers who:

🔹At least 18 years of age
🔹Enjoy connecting with people of all ages
🔹Are comfortable standing and walking outdoors in variable weather (sunlight, wind, or rain)
🔹Can confidently share short, prepared scripts about exhibits & AltaSea
🔹Are willing to pass a Live Scan background check (paid for by AltaSea at a later date)
🔹Can commit to the program consistently on a weekly or bi-weekly basis

🕙 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Recently, we celebrated a milestone we’re incredibly proud of—the graduation of Sharefest’s pilot Career Technical Education Welding Program cohort.

A huge thank you to AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles The Boeing Company & Dynamic Education for helping make this opportunity possible and for investing in real pathways to opportunity for our students.

Over 18 weeks, this cohort completed hands-on welding training, earned industry-recognized certifications, and took meaningful steps toward careers in the skilled trades.

For continuation high school students, access to opportunities like this can be transformational. Through Sharefest’s CTE program, students gain not only technical training, but also career readiness skills like communication, interviewing, workplace confidence, and professional development—because success in the workforce requires both skill and preparation.

And the pathway doesn’t stop at graduation. During the celebration, students connected directly with employment partners — including the Western states Union carpenter — to learn about immediate job opportunities, apprenticeships, and next steps into the trades.

This is what it looks like when education connects directly to workforce opportunity.
