Horizon Energy Corporation would like to thank Monna Gillespie for her many years of service. She began her employment on September 1, 1998 and her last day in the office was Friday, May 20th. We celebrated with her by having a lunch party, inviting past employees to join us. As we enjoyed the company and food, we also shared memories of John Townsend, our friend and co-worker, who retired last year and unfortunately passed away just a few days past. It was indeed a bittersweet gathering as we remembered times and events with good friends.

Monna had this to say about her time with Horizon Energy:

"I am at a loss for words to tell you how grateful I am that God put you all, Horizon Energy and Continental Petroleum, in my life. The day that Bob walked into the library to offer me an interview started a better chapter in that young mother's life. I knew nothing about oil and gas at that time, but that has definitely changed over the past 18 years. The co-workers (past and present) that I have worked with have been amazing. We have laughed and worked hard together. My memories of working with you all will be cherished forever!"

We would like to wish Monna all the best in her future. She plans to spend more time with her husband, Daniel Gillespie, and her sons, Zachary and Ethan Burkhammer.

Just want to inform everyone that Bro. Johnnie Townsend is now absent from the body but present with the Lord. Johnnie was a pillar in our church and in my life. We will keep everyone updated when arrangements are made. I think this scripture is very fitting for him. "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." (Phil. 1:21). Via Bryan Groves

Geraldine “Gerry” Moore, Distribution Supervisor for Horizon Energy Corporation in Sand Fork, West Virginia, retired on June 15, 2015 with 27 years of service. Her employment began on November 2, 1987 as a part time Secretary for Continental Petroleum Company and transitioned to Office Manager and Corporate Secretary for Horizon Energy Corporation in later years.

As many co-workers and friends can attest, Gerry’s dedication to her job and strong work ethic are second to none. She has proven to be a committed and loyal employee, frequently going above and beyond to ensure that the work was completed correctly and timely. In fact, she earned the nickname of “Bloodhound” for her ability to accomplish tasks and find solutions to long-standing issues.

Gerry is not only a dedicated employee but a friend to many who have had the opportunity to work with, or around her. She will be sorely missed, particularly by all of us at Horizon Energy, but also by our associates.

Gerry sums her employment with the following: “I interviewed at Continental Petroleum in 1987 for a part time position to cover a maternity leave for their full time employee. Twenty-seven years later, I am retiring from my part time job. Knowing nothing at all about the Oil and Gas industry, starting this new job was a challenge. The “Jones Family” took a chance on me. I was blessed to have good teachers who were patient and willing to share their knowledge. Leaving Horizon Energy, I take an abundance of good memories made with friends and co-workers. I shall ever be grateful to Bob, Judy and Rob for my many years in Sand Fork.”

Gerry plans to spend time with her husband, Gary, their five children (Marcie, Brian, Misty, Carey and Lori) and eight grandchildren (Jordanne, Tyler, Austin, Grace, Laurann, Daney, Eden and Mack).

Johnny Townsend, Field Foreman for Horizon Energy Corporation, in Sand Fork, WV, will be retiring on April 30, 2015. This will complete a 39 year career in the Oil and Gas Field. His employment began on August 1, 1976 for RoJo Industries, then Continental Petroleum Company and most recently, Horizon Energy Corporation. He was a well tender and fieldman until July 2002, at which time he was promoted to Field Foreman.

Under John’s supervision, Horizon Energy has received Nine (9) Reclamation Awards from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection. Five of these were 1st Place Awards and four were 2nd Place Awards, each in Horizon’s qualifying category. This attests to John’s dedication, work ethic, and high expectations for jobs well done. A humble man, John contributes his success to the performance of his well tenders. “I really have a good group of men. They seldom miss work and are so dependable. That has made my job a lot easier.” During his many years of employment, John was fortunate to have used only eleven (11) days of sick leave. John will surely be missed by everyone at Horizon Energy.

John plans to do some traveling with his wife Shirley, and spend time with his two sons, Jonathan and Justin, and their families.

Bob, Judy, Rob, and Katrina Jones are hosting an afternoon gathering in the Social Room of the Sand Fork Baptist Church on Friday, May 1, 2015 from Noon to 3:00 P.M. Refreshments will be served. Family, Friends, Work Associates, and Church Family are cordially invited to come out and enjoy the afternoon with John and his Family. A Guest Book will be available for sign-ins and good wishes. We hope to see you there.
