Have an idea for a part, but no CAD drawing? Your AI assistant can help with that, too.

An assistant with CAD or file-generation tools can help turn your dimensions, sketch, or description into a DXF or STEP file. Then connect it to Ahner Industrial to get real pricing, compare quantities, save a quote, and submit an order after you approve it.

Already have a DXF, STEP, or STP file? Start with that!

Use Codex or another compatible AI assistant that supports connecting to outside tools. **No Ahner account or API key needed.**

Here are two prompts to try after connecting your assistant:

🔩 Create a flat part and get pricing

“Create a DXF for a 6 × 4-inch rectangular plate in 1/8-inch carbon steel. Add four 3/8-inch holes, one near each corner, with each hole center 1/2 inch from both adjacent edges. Show me a dimensioned preview to check. After I approve the drawing, use Ahner to price 5, 10, and 25 pieces. Save a quote for the quantity I choose. Ask before submitting an order.”

📐 Turn a sketch into a bent part

“Help turn this attached sketch into a STEP model of a sheet-metal bracket in 11-gauge hot-rolled steel. Ask me for any missing dimensions, bend details, or tolerances. Show me the model and dimensions to check. After I approve the design, use Ahner to quote 10 pieces with laser cutting and bending. Save the quote and ask before submitting an order.”

Include any finish or other work you need. Review the dimensions, hole locations, bends, and tolerances before ordering. Parts that need shop review will be flagged.

Agent order submissions currently support pickup. Use your saved quote’s checkout link for delivery or online payment.

A good day in the shop is when the laser is cutting, the brake is bending, and nobody is asking where the part went. 🔩

A shop quote should account for what happens after the machine cycle.

Handling, deburring, forming, hardware, welding, packaging, and repeatability all shape the real cost of a metal part.

Custom fabrication works best when the sequence is clear.

Cut, form, fit, weld, check, finish, ship. Each step affects the next, especially when the part is more than a simple blank.

If you are comparing quantities, do it before the RFQ gets buried.

Ahner's online tool lets you upload qualified sheet metal parts and look at quantity pricing while the design is still fresh.

Some assemblies are built around a simple question: will everything line up when it leaves the shop?

Frames, openings, round connections, and welded structure all need to be planned as one job, not separate steps.

Long formed parts reward planning.

Bend length, tonnage, material handling, and operator access all matter when a part gets bigger than the bench.

CAD files make quoting easier when the geometry tells the full story.

DXF, STEP, and STP uploads help turn a rough request into a part-specific conversation about material, quantity, and manufacturability.
