Crews from Sandy City Fire were assisted by Sandy City Parks & Recreation chipping piles that were cleared in the Quail Hollow area. Fire crews have been performing mitigation efforts in the area including w**d whacking grass and limbing up trees. Fire crews stacked the limbs and dead fall in piles to be chipped. Today crews chipped the piles in the area and cleaned up the dead fall creating defensible space to help control any wildland fires in the area.

We've got a burning issue - overcharging batteries makes them swell, weaken, and flame out the battery life. Make sure to unplug your devices once they are fully charged.

Update (10/10 at 3:25 p.m.): Last sand has been delivered, bring your own sandbags. This is all the city plans on delivering. We will continue to monitor the storm and how the city will support.

Update (10/10 at 12:40 p.m.): We are delivering more sand, but people need to start bringing their own sand bags. You can purchase these at local hardware stores.

Update (10/9 at 7:40 p.m.):

The city is monitoring the sand and bag supplies and replenishing as needed. More was dropped off today and we will have more dropped off tomorrow (Saturday) morning. Please only get what you need for this storm.

With rain in the forecast, Sandy City Public Works crews are preparing and monitoring conditions throughout the city.

Sand and empty sandbags will be available for residents at 𝟵𝟴𝟬𝟬 𝗦. 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲. Residents who may be concerned about potential flooding are welcome to stop by and fill sandbags as needed.

Sandy Public Works crews are also inspecting storm drains, inlets, and drainage channels and will continue monitoring the forecast and conditions throughout the storm.

Please use caution during periods of heavy rain and avoid flooded roadways or areas with moving water.

Sandy Fire Wildland Fuels Mitigation ▶ Protecting our homes, neighbors and natural spaces

You may have seen our crews doing mitigation work around Sandy and possibly even near your neighborhood. This pamphlet is being distributed to homes near the current mitigation work. Our current mitigation project is Quail Hollow near Newcastle Drive. As weather permits, this project will be worked on through the rest of October and into November.

Sandy Fire's Wildland Mitigation crew have been working to help reduce the amount of grass and ladder fuels. Our goal is to help prevent rapid wildfire spread and create safer, more resilient neighborhoods.

With the leaves turning and the beautiful weather, many people are still out enjoying the trails in Sandy. Yesterday, B Shift assisted a hiker down from the Bonneville Shoreline Trailhead using technical rescue equipment.

Hiking Safety Tips:
▶ Hike with a buddy and let someone know your plans
▶ Stay on marked trails and avoid climbing on waterfalls
▶ Don’t take unnecessary risks
▶ Bring a phone, but don’t rely on cell service or GPS
▶ Pack plenty of water and snacks
▶ Wear sunscreen and dress for the season
▶ Carry quality rain gear and turn back if weather changes
▶ Help others on the trail
▶ Carry a whistle — three short blasts signal distress
▶ Keep a close eye on children and pets near swift water
