The News & Observer recently took a closer look at how apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs are helping build North Carolina’s future workforce, including Sanford Contractors’ Construction Academy and the team members and partners who help make it possible.

Sanford Contractors was recently recognized for our commitment to safety at the 2026 Carolinas AGC Construction Summit & Expo.

The Commercial Building and Utility divisions received 2025 Safety Achievement Awards from Carolinas AGC. The Utility Division also received the President’s Award for Safety after achieving zero lost time.

These awards reflect the preparation, accountability, and commitment our team members demonstrate each day to keep themselves and one another safe.

Sanford Contractors’ Bridge Division has reached a major milestone on the Mouth of the Creek Road Bridge Replacement project over Blounts Creek in Beaufort County.

In-water work began July 1, the first day of the permitted work window, and crews have since driven the first test pile for the new structure. The bridge will be more than 950 feet long and requires over 900 linear feet of temporary work bridge for construction access.

With in-water work limited to July 1 through February 15, the team remains on track to complete the new structure within the permitted season. TThis progress reflects significant advance planning and coordination, including support from SCI’s Support Services Division, which makes multiple trips to the site each week to deliver equipment and supplies.

Last week, Sanford Contractors joined organizations across the country in recognizing OSHA’s Safe & Sound Week.

Throughout the week, SCI Safety Coordinator Aaron Hayes visited jobsites across our divisions to lead safety meetings, discuss safe work practices, and reinforce the importance of recognizing and addressing hazards before work begins. He also encouraged team members to continue doing what they do well: looking out for themselves and one another.

The practices highlighted during these visits reflect the commitment our team members demonstrate every day to working safely and looking out for one another. Thank you to everyone who participated and continues to make safety a priority on every Sanford Contractors jobsite.

Yesterday, members of the SCI Site Development team joined FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Brasfield & Gorrie, and others on the project team in Troy to celebrate the topping out of the new FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

As part of the topping-out tradition, attendees signed the final structural beam before it was lifted into place.

Sanford Contractors is providing total site development for the 40,000-square-foot facility. It will replace the existing hospital and expand FirstHealth’s ability to serve Montgomery County and the surrounding communities for decades to come.

Congratulations to FirstHealth, Brasfield & Gorrie and the entire project team on reaching this milestone. We appreciate the opportunity to continue working alongside them as construction progresses.

A year ago, our team joined Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) to celebrate the start of construction on its new Biotechnology Building with a wall-breaking ceremony. On Friday, we celebrated its opening with a ribbon cutting.

Completed by Sanford Contractors’ Commercial Building team, this state-of-the-art facility is the first finished piece of CCCC’s larger vision for the E. Eugene Moore Manufacturing and Biotech Solutions Center.

The new building expands CCCC’s biotechnology training capacity and gives students hands-on experience in the clean room and laboratory settings they will encounter in the workplace. It will also provide training and retraining opportunities for employers across our region’s growing life sciences sector as workforce needs continue to evolve.

During the ceremony, Assistant Superintendent Chase Marlowe was honored with a special pin from CCCC in recognition of his excellence in managing the project.

Thank you to CCCC for trusting Sanford Contractors with a project of this importance, and to our team members and trade partners who brought it together. We are proud to have delivered this biotechnology training facility and look forward to seeing the opportunities it creates for CCCC students and area employers.
