This was an interesting project to say the least. The customer wanted a Dumbwaiter installed to bring laundry and groceries up from the garage to the main living area upstairs. At the time there was only an exterior set of stairs to bring laundry and groceries up from the garage. This was not a good situation, since both her & husband had mobility difficulties, especially during the winter when it was common to have ether frost & ice on the stairs or water if it happened to be raining.
The problem was that the only location available to install the Dumbwaiter had a window in the way. The obvious answer to the dilemma was to have the Dumbwaiter stop short of the window & load & unload at floor level, this was not an option with their mobility issues. The answer was quite simple, make it accessible from the top, hens the term Top Loading Dumbwaiter.
