Santa Maria Energy, LLC, is an independent, private energy company committed to the responsible exploration and development of natural resources in Santa Barbara County, California. Headquartered in Santa Maria, California, all of our company's assets are located onshore in Santa Barbara County. Originally, Santa Maria Energy concentrated upon a single resource: oil-bearing Diatomite. That focus e

xisted because scientists have known for a hundred years that Diatomite can host very large amounts of oil. However, an economically and environmentally acceptable method of producing it had proven elusive until the mid 1990’s, when producing Diatomite by cyclic steaming began to prove commercial. At that time, California's daily oil production was approximately 700,000 barrels and production from Diatomite contributed very few, if any, barrels to the total. In 2009, California's daily oil production was approximately 640,000 barrels and production from Diatomite contributed approximately 75,000 barrels. The potential exists for daily oil production from Diatomite to continue increasing in the coming years, perhaps dramatically. It is also expected that California's daily oil production will increase because of renewed interest in the Monterey formation. The Monterey is the most prolific oil shale in the world and has produced billions of barrels of oil since the 19th Century. Consensus is developing in the U.S. oil industry that significant additional barrels will be produced on-shore in California from the prolific Monterey as newer and more sophisticated exploration, development and production technologies are applied. The Monterey extends along the entire Central Coast of California, including the Santa Maria Basin. As Santa Maria Energy has built its portfolio of Diatomite projects, Monterey opportunities have also been acquired, thereby diversifying our asset base.

YOUR Vote Matters!

Our city, our county, and our country is important to all of us. We are fortunate to live where we do and one way we can express our appreciation is to vote.

If you have not already voted, please do so. It is a simple act that can make a profound difference.

Many important decisions will be made in this election, including who will represent us in Congress, State Assembly, our City Council, as judges in our courtrooms and as members of our school boards. Additionally, there are propositions and initiatives that must be decided. Each one matters.

Certainly, that includes Measure P. Defeating Measure P is vitally important to the men and women who work for and with Santa Maria Energy, along with their families. Defeating Measure P is vitally important to the well being of our cities, our county, and our country.

Please help us by voting No on Measure P.

If you haven't yet visited the Santa Barbara Public Market, you must go! Great artisanal food, culture, architecture and history await your arrival.

One of the items you will come across is the 1959 mosaic mural created by local artist Joseph Knowles. It was an impressive feat to move and preserve the 465,000 tiles weighing 60 tons, which comprise this iconic piece of history, from Victoria Street to Chapala Street. The craftsmanship is amazing as is the artist’s capture of pivotal eras in Santa Barbara’s history.

Of course, the oil tile grabbed our attention!

Oil has played an important economic and cultural role in making Santa Barbara County what it is today and will continue its vital role in shaping our vibrant communities well into the future.
