From blighted property to an award-winning community destination.

BCI Construction was honored to recently present to the Economic Development Association of Minnesota (EDAM), sharing the journey behind The House Food & Tap in St. Joseph, MN.

What began as a former gas station property evolved into a vibrant food hall through vision, persistence, flexibility, and strong community collaboration. The session traced the project from the original vision identified in the City of St. Joseph’s Comprehensive Plan through redevelopment and construction completion.

BCI President & CEO Ryan Cross and Associate Preconstruction Manager Tess Aleshire shared how consistent communication, collaboration, and a willingness to adapt helped the project team navigate challenges and turn a long-term community vision into reality.

The House Food & Tap was also named EDAM’s 2026 Project of the Year, recognizing the project’s positive economic and community impact in Minnesota.

We’re proud to have played a role in bringing this vision to life, and grateful for the opportunity to share the lessons learned along the way with economic development professionals from across the state.

30 Years. 30 Stories. | Story #13: A Second Act

Some buildings get demolished. Others get another story.

The buildings that are now home to the Great River Children's Museum have been part of downtown St. Cloud since the 1930s. Over nearly a century, they've housed a chicken hatchery, grocery store, offices, apartments, an athletic club, car dealership, print shop, bank and more.

Today, they're filled with something entirely different: Kids discovering. Families connecting. A community playing.

Transforming three aging buildings into one 34,346-square-foot children's museum was anything but simple. Environmental remediation, structural reinforcement, accessibility upgrades, complex building connections and eight custom interactive exhibits all had to come together within a tight downtown site.

The result is now Minnesota's second-largest children's museum, and the transformation was recognized with a 2026 Minnesota Brownfields ReScape Award. Click here for more information on the Rescape Award.

We're proud of the award. We're even prouder of what stands behind it. A nearly century-old property has a new purpose. Downtown St. Cloud has a new destination. And generations of Central Minnesota kids have a new place to learn, imagine and experience the power of play.

That's what it means to build something greater than ourselves.

Genuine Care: This BCI Value extends beyond our employees to our families.

We’re incredibly proud of Amanda Ramler’s daughter, Anna, who raised more than $3,000 this year to support St. Teresa’s Orphanage in Tanzania.

Since 2020, Anna has been baking and selling cookies, donating 100% of the proceeds to the orphanage’s preschool program. This year was her most successful fundraiser yet, bringing in an incredible $3,141.10! Combined with Anna’s church offerings, the funds raised will provide enough to feed 60 preschoolers for an entire year. What an inspiring example of generosity, compassion, and the difference one person can make.

Way to go, Anna!

The BCI team were proud to join the Lake Johanna Fire Department in celebrating the Grand Opening of Station 110 in Arden Hills last week.

This state-of-the-art facility serves as the department's new headquarters and includes administrative offices, living quarters for part-time shift personnel, fitness and wellness space, and dedicated classrooms and hands-on training areas that will support both the Lake Johanna Fire Department and regional partner agencies.

The new space will strengthen public safety, support first responders, and serve the surrounding communities for years to come. We are honored to have partnered with the Lake Johanna Fire Department on this incredible project.

Story #12 | 30 Years. 30 Stories

For 30 years, we've believed that building something greater than ourselves extends beyond the jobsites we work on. It means investing in the communities where we live, work, and raise our families.

That's why BCI Construction was proud to sponsor the Ready Set School event, where more than 200 volunteers came together to assemble school supply kits for preschool through 5th-grade classrooms across the St. Cloud Area School District 742.

Thank you to , the many community partners, and every volunteer who helped make this event a success. Together, we're helping students walk into the school year prepared, confident, and ready to learn. We're grateful to be part of a community that shows up for its kids. 🍎📚

A few of our BCI Team had a wonderful day at the 36th Annual Crusader Golf Open last week to support Cathedral Middle and High School. We even had a couple of visitors including our Field Operations Manager's wife and first daughter. She'll be ready for the job site in no time!

Thirty years of building great projects begins with building a great team.

One of our favorite traditions is gathering outside the jobsite. Whether it's cheering on the St. Cloud ROX, volunteering in our communities, celebrating milestones, or simply spending time together with our families and friends.

This week, our BCI team enjoyed the craftsmanship of the crew who worked on the newly rebuilt QXO Deck at Joe Faber Field. We had a chance to relax, laugh, and enjoy time together while supporting a community organization that means so much to Central Minnesota.

At BCI, we believe our families are part of our story, too. Their support allows us to do what we do every day, and these traditions are one way we say thank you while strengthening the relationships that make our team unique.

Projects may define what we build, but our people, and the culture we've built together over the last 30 years, define who we are.

Building stronger communities starts with more than bricks and mortar, it starts with education.

As BCI Construction and 4594 Design partner with the City of Litchfield on its Historic Façade Improvement Project, we're also helping introduce the next generation to construction in a fun and meaningful way.

To support the city's community events, our team created a kid-friendly construction safety activity booklet that teaches everything from the importance of wearing PPE to why preserving historic buildings matters. Through games, activities, and safety tips, children can learn how construction projects help shape and strengthen their communities while understanding the importance of staying safe around active job sites. The booklet encourages kids to "Be Smart. Stay Safe. Build Strong!" while reinforcing that every great construction crew starts with safety first.

We're proud to partner with the City of Litchfield and 4594 Design on a project that's restoring the community's history while investing in its future, one young builder at a time.
