Fabcon

Fabcon Since 1971, Fabcon has grown from one plant to a nationwide leader, refining engineering, expanding capabilities and shaping how precast concrete is perceived.

David Hanson and Gerald Rauenhorst established Fabcon in 1970 to develop the potential of SpanDeck technology, then used for producing 8-foot wide concrete wall panels and floor slabs. Fabcon’s first plant began operations in 1971, producing slabs for use in apartment buildings and retail projects. As our business grew, we refined our engineering and enhanced our equipment to expand our capabiliti

es and the markets we served. With the acquisition of The American Precast Company in 1995, Fabcon gained a plant in Grove City, Ohio. The eastward expansion continued in 2000 with the addition of a third Fabcon facility in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In 2015, Fabcon set its sights west and added a fourth plant in Pleasanton, Kansas. 2021 marked a year of growth for Fabcon with the acquisition of Oldcastle Infrastructure’s Building Services Division and Kerkstra Precast. Through these acquisitions, Fabcon gained plants in Selkirk, New York, Grandville, Michigan and Trenton, Michigan. Fabcon celebrated 50 years of quality, dedication to excellence, and first-class service in 2021. Fabcon employees sustain a tradition of quality, a commitment to innovation, and a readiness to seize new opportunities to serve precast concrete customers.

Kentwood Community Center
Precast concrete was chosen for this project because it could solve several design and structural challenges. By using moment frames between the corridor and the gym, more windows and therefore more light is allowed to pass into the space. This also gives the community a site line straight into the gym when entering the building. Other features include, hollow core flooring on the roof to help hide HVAC units and the ability for edge-to-edge insulation in the precast.

From elementary to high schools, aquatics facilities and athletic centers, these projects reflect our commitment to using precast concrete to create strong buildings that inspire learning and opportunity. Thank you to everyone who helped bring these spaces to life, and we wish all students, staff, and families a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved summer break.

Construction Safety Week
Protecting our crew means more than meeting minimum standards—it requires actively following the latest safety practices and looking out for one another every day. By staying up to date on procedures, using the right protective equipment, and recognizing potential hazards early, we create a work environment where everyone can perform their job with confidence. When safety is a shared responsibility, we not only prevent injuries but also ensure our employees return home safely at the end of of the day.

Construction Safety Week is really about bringing everyone in the industry together around one shared goal—keeping every worker safe. This year’s theme, “All In Together,” highlights the importance of Recognize, Respond, and Respect, and encourages all of us to stay engaged, keep improving, and work closely with one another. When we take the time to spot high-energy hazards on site, we’re in a much better position to put the right controls in place and prevent serious injuries.
