What makes a retaining wall last?

It’s not the blocks you see—it’s the work you don’t.

A retaining wall is more than just a row of blocks stacked together. The key to a strong, long-lasting wall starts below ground with proper excavation, a solid compacted base, and careful installation of the first course. Behind the wall, clean drainage stone and drain tile help move water away and reduce the pressure that causes many walls to fail. On taller walls, geogrid reinforcement is used to lock the wall into the hillside and provide additional support.

Every step matters. Skipping drainage, using the wrong backfill, or cutting corners on the foundation can lead to leaning, bulging, or complete failure over time.
