Before smart manufacturing, there was the Sodick MD-5B.

50 years ago, we premiered the world's first CNC Sinker EDM with an integrated microcomputer. The MD-5B pushed the boundaries of what was possible in EDM machining.

Decades later, its influence can still be seen in the advanced technologies powering today's Sodick machines. By combining CNC capability with onboard computing power, it helped unlock new levels of precision, efficiency, and process control; innovation has always been in our DNA.
