🧬 A great few days at AEpiA 2026!
Dovetail Genomics was proud to sponsor the Australasian Epigenetics Alliance (AEpiA) Meeting in Adelaide.

It was inspiring to connect with researchers using epigenetics to better understand gene regulation, development, and disease—areas where Hi-C can add an important 3D perspective to multiomics studies.

🔬 We were especially delighted to see poster presentations featuring Dovetail technology and to hear directly from researchers about their findings and how they’re applying 3D genomics in their work.

There was also plenty of interest in Dovetail LinkPrep, our Tn5-based Hi-C solution, particularly its broad, even genome coverage and streamlined one-day workflow from sample to sequencing-ready library.

🤝 And, of course, it was wonderful to reconnect with familiar faces across the 3D genomics community, meet new ones, and exchange ideas about emerging research and future collaborations.

🌊🌊How can genomics help protect a species at risk of extinction?🌊🌊

A new study in Scientific Data presents the first chromosome-level, haplotype-phased reference genomes for the Critically Endangered school shark (𝘎𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘰𝘳𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘴 𝘨𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘶𝘴), a species that has experienced global population declines of more than 80%.

Using PacBio HiFi + 𝗗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹® 𝗢𝗺𝗻𝗶-𝗖®, researchers generated a chromosome-level reference genome designed to support future studies of genetic diversity, population management, and conservation.

A new assay is only as convincing as its data. So here's what the Dovetail® FFPE Assay actually shows: Head-to-head comparisons show that FFPE-derived results detect structural variants with high concordance to matched fresh frozen tissue, in both breakpoint precision and VAF estimation.

Performance has been validated across multiple tumor types including breast, ovarian, and osteosarcoma samples. Critically, this includes samples with varying DIN scores and tumor fractions — the kind of real-world FFPE material that causes problems for other NGS platforms.

The Dovetail® FFPE assay is available as a kit for in-house library preparation, or as a service if you'd prefer to outsource the wet lab. Either way, data analysis runs through the Dovetail Analysis Portal — so you get consistent, actionable results without building custom bioinformatics pipelines.

📚 From the Literature: Exploring Regeneration in Jellyfish 🪼

🎉 Congratulations to Yiqian Li, Sean T.S. Law, Wenyan Nong, Jerome H.L. Hui, and colleagues on their publication in Molecular Biology and Evolution exploring tissue remodeling and regeneration in two species of true jellyfish.

Using single-cell RNA sequencing, the team profiled bell tissue remodeling and regeneration in the Asian moon jellyfish, Aurelia coerulea, and the flame jellyfish, Rhopilema esculentum. They identified 12 cell populations in each species and uncovered conserved, sequential changes during remodeling and regeneration, with proliferative, gastrodermal, neural, and secretory gland cells active early in the process, followed by cnidocytes in a later phase. The study also identified conserved transcription factors and signaling pathways associated with tissue remodeling and regeneration, including Otx, TFAP2A, Erg, NFIA, and Wnt/β-catenin signaling.

🧬 To support these analyses, the researchers generated a new Aurelia genome assembly using PacBio HiFi and Dovetail Omni-C data. The improved assembly significantly increased sequence continuity and enabled mapping rates of approximately 90–92% for the single-cell RNA-seq reads, providing a stronger genomic foundation for the study. Dovetail Genomics also contributed directly to the genome assembly and sequencing workflow.

📖 Customer Publication Highlight

🎉 Congratulations to Gonzalo Sabarís, Marco Di Stefano, Bernd Schuettengruber, Giacomo Cavalli, and colleagues on their recent publication in Nucleic Acids Research!

In this study, the authors investigated how Polycomb response elements (PREs) establish specific chromatin loops that regulate gene expression during development. Their findings reveal that while high GAF occupancy is required for robust PRE looping, GAF alone is not sufficient. Instead, chromatin loop specificity appears to depend on a combinatorial set of looping factors, supporting the idea that these combinations may form a molecular "code" that helps determine which PREs interact. The study also challenges previous models by showing that Polycomb Repressive Complex 1 (PRC1) is dispensable for local PRE loop formation, despite its association with these regions.

🧬 Using the Dovetail Micro-C Kit, the team generated high-resolution chromatin interaction maps that enabled them to quantify PRE looping across multiple genetic perturbations and support their mechanistic conclusions.
