Data center electricity usage is set to double by 2026 according to a new report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) - due to the rise of power-intensive workloads of AI and cryptocurrency mining.

“Updated regulations and technological improvements, including on efficiency, will be crucial to moderate the surge in energy consumption from data centers,” the report’s authors said.

The power intensive workloads of AI and cryptocurrency mining face major challenges linked to energy consumption and thermal management. Our JouleForce™ Cooling technology offers a cost-effective and efficient solution unparalleled in its ability to meet the evolving demands of increasingly high performance and power hungry electronic systems.

Arizona has announced that it will no longer approve building permits for residential developments that rely on groundwater in Maricopa County. The decision means cities and developers must look for alternative sources of water to support future development.

Arizona’s water supply is being squeezed from two fronts - disappearing groundwater as well as the shrinking Colorado River. Water problems have begun to percolate through the state's politics as local and state governments search for solutions. Homes, farms, businesses, and public programs have been drawing on water supplies at an increasing rate, totaling 2.2 billion gallons per day in Maricopa County alone. Arizona’s water supply uncertainty is a microcosm of water stressed areas throughout the world.

Forced Physics DCT’s waterless electronics cooling technology is set to be the driving force of a sustainable digital landscape, where data centers are no longer reliant on water or air conditioning - even in Arizona. The adoption of JouleForce Cooling technology will remove the water burden from the data center industry - freeing massive amounts of water that can be better used by homes, farms, public programs, and businesses.

Brian Snyder, CEO of Kaboomracks, touched on how our JouleForce Cooling is the next evolution of cooling technology for the crypto currency industry - during his keynote speech at the Mining Disrupt Conference in Miami, Florida. The Mining Disrupt Conference is the world’s largest digital asset summit focused on in-depth blockchain enterprise level solutions and cryptocurrency mining.

Kaboomracks has been testing a modified Bitcoin mining system that utilizes our JouleForce Cooling Technology. The Bitcoin mining system was able to operate continuously at max power / hashrate using inlet air as hot as 120°F outside in the extreme Phoenix, AZ heat. JouleForce Cooling Technology uses only outside air, even at extreme temperatures, to cool crypto currency miners without the need for liquids or air conditioning.

A few weeks ago Katie Hobbs, the governor of Arizona, unveiled a plan to limit construction in areas around Phoenix after finding that the groundwater can’t support the current pace of building. With the green spotlight putting sustainability issues more into focus on the massive amounts of water used by data centers, many question whether Arizona will continue to approve the development of new massive data centers.

The Phoenix metro area has over 5 million residents and will continue to grow. The necessity of placing data centers as close to large user populations, improving the speed of internet services, further pushes the need for more data centers.

The growing problem for data center developers finding more sustainable ways to cool their data centers can be solved simply by incorporating Forced Physics DCT’s JouleForce™ Cooling technology. Our Microchannel Arrays, which replace the traditional heatsink, can cool any electronics used by data centers without the need for air conditioning, water, or chemical coolants. Even in the intense summer heat of Arizona our Microchannel arrays can keep electronics within their thermal envelope using only ambient air.
