Join our FREE 71st ASP Webinar as Dr. Judy Wu explores how excited-state antiaromaticity transforms benzene into a remarkably reactive platform for photochemical transformations ‼️

📅 Thursday, June 4, 2026

🕐 1:00–2:00 PM Eastern Time

🎤 Judy Wu, PhD is the Thomas A. Albright Professor of Chemistry, University of Houston

Benzene in the Excited State: A Playground for Photochemical Transformations

As we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Faraday’s discovery of benzene, Dr. Wu will discuss how relief of excited-state antiaromaticity can drive diverse photochemical processes, including proton transfer, electron transfer, π-bond activation, tunable Lewis interactions, and photo-HF elimination. The presentation will also introduce Baird’s rule and highlight computational discoveries from her research group over the past decade.

Dr. Wu is a leading computational organic chemist whose work has advanced our understanding of aromaticity and antiaromaticity and their applications in chemical reactivity and molecular design.
