What makes a “software-defined” vehicle possible?

It starts with the hardware.

Advanced driver assistance, automated parking, intelligent lighting and more efficient electric powertrains may get most of the attention, but underneath them is a network of sensing, power and control technologies working together across the vehicle.

And onsemi technology is inside more of those systems than you might realize.

Hyperlux image sensors help driving systems capture critical visual information, ultrasonic sensors support close-range awareness for automated parking and dual inductive rotary position sensors translate physical movement into accurate control signals.

And that’s only part of the story. More onsemi technologies are working across the vehicle to support power, control, lighting and other critical functions. Together, they give software the hardware foundation it needs to see, sense, control and respond.

AI racks, robots and industrial systems are all asking the same thing from power electronics: deliver more power without taking up more space.

GaNEXUS™, onsemi’s gallium nitride (GaN) power portfolio, is built for that challenge.

With faster switching, lower switching losses and higher power density than conventional silicon solutions, GaNEXUS helps engineers rethink power architectures for demanding applications including AI data centers, robotics, industrial automation and energy infrastructure.

The portfolio spans 40V to 650V GaN FETs, along with 650V GaNEXUS Smart devices that integrate protection features to simplify system design and improve reliability.

Combined with onsemi silicon and EliteSiC technologies, GaNEXUS gives engineers more options to optimize efficiency, thermal performance, system size and cost across the power-delivery chain.

As the demand for power keeps growing, the technology delivering it has to keep evolving too.

Did you know some of the most important signals in a modern vehicles can be measured in just a few millivolts?! ⚡️🔍

Pressure and force sensors are constantly feeding data into automotive systems that manage braking, EV battery cooling and occupant detection. Some of those signals measure as little as 6 mV, yet they still have to stay accurate through electrical noise, temperature swings and other harsh conditions.

That’s the job of the onsemi NCV7192.

It powers the sensor, amplifies and filters the signal, compensates for temperature effects and catches sensor faults in a single device. Engineers get a simpler design with fewer external components while maintaining overall accuracy of 0.25% or better.

It’s a lot of work for a very small signal.

Download our latest white paper to see what it takes to turn pressure and force sensor outputs into data the system can trust. ⚡️🔍

Progress is measured by what we change – not just what we promise.

Across onsemi, our teams are finding new ways to use energy more efficiently, reduce emissions, conserve water and materials and create more value with fewer resources.

The results highlighted in our 2025 Sustainability Report show that progress is happening across our operations, while the technologies we develop continue helping customers build more efficient vehicles, data centers, energy systems and industrial applications.

There is still more work ahead, but all efficiencies gained, resources saved and emissions reduced move us closer to a cleaner, more resilient future.

Can using less power actually help a drone see better? 👀

Yes. And the reason comes down to heat.

Drones pack motors, processors, sensors and other electronics into a tight, power-constrained space. As onsemi’s Stephen Harris explains, the temperature of an image sensor can directly affect its performance. Lower-power sensors generate less heat, which can ultimately help improve image quality.

In a new interview with Future Electronics / Electronic Component Distribution, Steve explores what engineers need to consider when designing the next generation of drone vision systems, from power and dynamic range to global shutter, sensor fusion and edge processing.

Watch the full conversation to learn how advancements in imaging technology are helping drones see and navigate the world around them. 👇

We're still riding the high of Week and the incredible energy our teams brought to celebrations around the world.

In Vietnam, Momentum Monday set the tone with employees across the site coming together to celebrate connection, teamwork and pride in being part of onsemi.

The 'Strike in Orange' Photo Contest added a creative twist, giving teams a chance to show their onsemi spirit in orange-themed outfits and poses, while building even stronger connections across departments.

Creative outfits. Big team spirit. Tons of personality.

Exactly the kind of energy Week is all about.

What happens when you replace a robot’s wheels with propellers? You get a robot that flies. 🤖🚁

Underneath the surface, drones and autonomous mobile robots share many of the same building blocks: lithium-ion batteries, brushless DC motors, power conversion, processors and sensing technologies that help them understand and move through the world around them.

The difference is that a drone has to do it all while staying in the air, putting even greater demands on efficiency, weight and sensing.

onsemi helps engineers tackle both sides of the challenge. Intelligent power technologies improve efficiency and motor control, while sensing solutions help drones see, navigate, measure distance and maintain precise control in flight.

More sensors aren’t always the answer to a smarter vehicle interior. 🧠🚘

Smarter cabins start with getting more value from the hardware that is already there.

In a new interview with InCabin, Marek Hustava, product architect at the onsemi Design Center in Brno, explores how engineers can unlock more functionality from the sensors and actuators already inside your car.

Ultrasonic sensing can do much more than detect presence. It can pick up micro-movements, support temperature monitoring and push more intelligence to the edge so the system can respond locally without relying on the central Fusion ECU for every decision.

Marek also explains how ultrasonic sensing can complement cameras while preserving occupant privacy and reducing the processing required for in-cabin monitoring.

Dive into the full interview to learn how ultrasonic sensing is opening up new possibilities for smarter, more efficient vehicle interiors. 👇
