A&R Solar

10/17/2026

Solar panels are only part of the story. The people putting them on your roof matter just as much.

When you choose A&R Solar, you’re choosing a local, employee-owned company that’s been installing solar in the Pacific Northwest for nearly 20 years.

Our crews aren’t subcontractors. They’re our coworkers, our fellow employee-owners, and the people who take pride in getting the details right.

Because a solar installation isn’t just about what goes on your roof. It’s about who’s standing behind the work for years to come.

☀️ Local people. Real accountability. Solar done right.

Not all solar installers are the same. And the differences aren't always obvious in the quote. ☀️

Before choosing a solar company, ask a few important questions:

🔹 Who actually installs your panels — employees or subcontractors?

🔹 What happens if your system needs service five years from now?

🔹 What do the warranties really cover?

🔹 Is your system designed for your home, or is it a one-size-fits-all proposal?

We've put together **7 questions every Portland-area homeowner should ask before choosing a solar installer.**

Whether you choose A&R Solar or another company, we want you to know what to look for.

⚡ **How much control do you have over what you'll pay for electricity in the years ahead?**

Across Washington and Oregon, electricity rates continue to rise, leaving homeowners wondering what their bills will look like five or ten years from now.

Consider what's happening right here in the Pacific Northwest:

🔹 **Washington:** Puget Sound Energy is proposing electricity rate increases totaling nearly 30% over three years. Consumer Reports estimates that could add more than $600 annually to a typical customer's bill by 2029.

🔹 **Oregon:** Portland General Electric raised residential rates 5% in April and is proposing another 3.9% increase next year.

While the proposed increases still need regulatory approval, one thing is clear: predicting your future electricity costs isn't getting any easier.

☀️ **That's one reason homeowners are looking at solar.**

Generating your own electricity means buying less from your utility and reducing your exposure to future rate increases.

You can't control what your utility charges. But you can have more control over how much electricity you need to buy.

If you've been thinking about solar, we're happy to help you explore whether it makes financial sense for your home.

No pressure. Just good information from your local, employee-owned solar company.

⚠️ Seattle City Light is planning changes to net metering.

Right now, Seattle homeowners with solar get something valuable: retail-rate credit for excess solar electricity they send back to the grid.

City Light has confirmed it’s planning the next phase of the program — but it hasn’t said what the new rules will be.

So here’s what matters:

✅ Retail-rate net metering is available today.
✅ City Light says changes are coming.
✅ We don’t know what those changes will mean for future solar customers.

The rules are good today. We don’t know if they’ll be this good tomorrow.

If solar has been sitting on your “someday” list, let's get started on a quote.

Pretty cool jobsite this week. ✈️ ☀️
Yep, that’s one of the original Air Force One jets behind the panel box — SAM 970 carried Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon.

Above it, our crew is getting started on a much newer piece of technology.

We’re using a crane this week to lift 1,863 solar panels onto the roof of the Museum of Flight’s Aviation Pavilion at Boeing Field.

Once complete, the system is projected to produce enough electricity annually to cover 100% of the Museum’s existing West Campus electricity needs.

More photos and video coming as the project takes shape.

Storm season is coming.

If you’ve been thinking about battery backup, fall is a good time to take another look.

We’re offering seasonal pricing on home battery systems for homeowners who already have solar and for those considering solar + storage together.

A battery can help keep essentials running when the grid goes down — refrigeration, lights, Wi-Fi, outlets and more, depending on your setup.

Want to know what backup could look like at your house?

Keep the lights on through the Northwest power outages, use more of your generated solar energy at night, and get your home ready for full electrification

Apparently, we’re out of business.
That was news to us! 👻

We’ve heard reports from our customers of door-to-door salespeople telling homeowners that their solar installer (A&R included) has closed, then offering to sell them service or warranty plans.

So, just to clear things up, we're:
☀️ Still installing solar
🔋 Still installing batteries
🔧 Still servicing systems
👥 Still employee-owned
📍 Still here since 2007

If someone shows up at your door and tells you A&R Solar has disappeared, give us a call before you sign anything.

Always have a huge dose of skepticism with door-to-door sales people.

Avoid solar door‑knocking scams with tips on contracts, pricing, and spotting trustworthy installers before you sign anything.

PSE is proposing nearly 30% in electric rate increases over the next three years.

You can’t control what your utility charges for electricity. But you can control how much of it you need to buy.

That’s one of the simplest ways to think about solar: generate more of your own power, and buy less from the utility as rates rise.

We broke down PSE’s proposal and what it could mean for homeowners.

Wow! PSE is proposing some serious electricity rate increases over the next three years. You're paying too much for electricity. Solar can change that.
