Congratulations to Dr. Sep Makhsous, who recently received the 2021 Dr. James A. Cottone Award for Excellence in Investigative Research. This award, given out by the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention was given to Dr. Makhsous for his study evaluating aerosol persistence during dental procedures in real time.

The transmission of aerosol particles is a leading cause of exposure for many infectious diseases, including COVID-19. Dr. Makhsous and his team, along with School of Dentistry faculty members Dr. Ricardo Schwedhelm, Dr. Greg Huang, and Dr. Daniel Chan, are investigating the integration of real-time aerosol sensors in a dental setting to help evaluate and improve ways to eliminate aerosol transmission. They are actively looking for collaborators to help them with understanding the current limitations in controlling aerosolized viruses and pathogens during dental procedures.

If this research interests you and you would like to learn more, please contact Dr. Makhsous at [email protected].

Our EHD mask project team at SEAL is expanding their product across different industries. They’re currently looking for Boeing employees who work in air crew safety or air safety investigation (preferably with monitoring cabin air quality) to interview and collaborate with to make their product a success. Included are some images they have of their mockup so far. We’d greatly appreciate it if you helped us pass this message along and help our team find these connections!
