Making room. In 2024, KCTS 9 and Crosscut.com left Seattle Center for a renovated headquarters on Seattle’s First Hill, coming together under one roof and one name: Cascade PBS.
Abbott completed the renovation with JPC Architects. The most significant coordination challenge centered around removing two structural columns from the main event space to provide better sightlines, which took significant engineering review and multiple permit revisions with the City of Seattle. At the studio spaces, walls up to 11-3/8 inches thick were constructed to meet organizational acoustic requirements for the various broadcasts and recordings completed from the facility.
The result supports Cascade PBS’s digital production work and its public events, with a 240-seat event space and a terrace with views of Mount Rainier. The interior design draws on the natural environment of the Pacific Northwest, the region Cascade PBS serves.
