IMI has been serving the public for over 26 years by providing high quality instrumentation to support health protection in the medical, laboratory, academic and public safety communities. Our instruments have been chosen by FDNY, Defense Threat Reduction Organization, Stanford University, Three Mile Island Public Health Fund, and thousands of other users worldwide. IMI pioneered low power hand he

ld geiger counters, and probes that will detect low level and low energy radiation in the environment. Our instruments were among the first chosen by U.S. Government agencies to prevent smuggling of nuclear weapons materials across borders.

Medcom founders Dan Sythe, Joe Jaffe and Steve Weiss. Joe was a physicist who earlier collaborated with Dan on doppler fetal pulse detectors. He provided a personal loan to Dan to start building radiation detectors at Dan's first company. He then came out of retirement to work with Dan in forming Medcom. He was previously founder and Director of Instrument Research at Smith Kline, where he developed early ultrasound imaging devices, portable EKG machines, and the first commercial Doppler for obstetrics, the Doptone. Steve and Dan bonded doing relief projects as volunteer ham radio operators, and then collaborated on solar energy projects and radiation detectors. Some of their early instrument designs, including an instrument named the Monitor 4, are still produced today, 45 years later. Dan, Joe and Steve worked a lot of nights and weekends together over many years, across two companies, to produce high quality radiation detectors that have influenced the landscape in the wold of radiations safety. Before their collaborations radiation detectors were large and bulky, with poor battery life. Their innovations put radiation detectors into hands and pockets, with unparalleled battery life and accuracy. When the USSR was splintering there was much concern about where the nuclear materials and weapons were going. Dan, Joe and Steve worked nights and weekends with others to produce instruments to protect borders during that critical period. This was under the Nunn (Democrat) Lugar (Republican) Nuclear Threat Reduction initiatives, with cooperation from Russia and the former republics. We at Medcom miss those days when world leaders and Republicans and Democrats, worked together, despite differences, to protect their populations from the threat of nuclear terrorism and warfare.

We get asked occasionally why we are not more active on social media. The honest answer is itʻs a pretty noisy environment these days, and the social media companies seem to be more focused on harvesting personal data than safeguarding it. But itʻs the world we live in. Here at Medcom we try to stay focused on our customers and the quality of our instruments, so social media can be a distraction from that core mission.

People tell us they choose our instruments because of their strong good reputation, the ease of use, and the long useful service life they provide. Every day of the week we are paying attention to the quality of every component that goes into our instruments with the goal that each instrument we produce will perform well for decades. Thus we are able to offer the worldʻs best radiation detector warranty with confidence. We periodically get calls from people who have inherited instruments we produced 40 years ago - and they are still working well, across generations. That gives us a great deal of satisfaction. We have one instrument running in the lab that our founders built 50 years ago, and it still works great.

We are grateful for our customers and distributors, worldwide. We especially appreciate the friendships we have developed with our customers and distributors over the years.

Recent years have been challenging for everyone. There was covid, and then the resulting supply chain issues, and then trade and tariff issues, and wars...and now inflation and increased shipping costs. Through it all we have kept our production line running and have been focused on our customer needs and on high quality. We have absorbed rising costs to keep our instruments affordable.

Huge thanks to all of our customers and friends, worldwide. We hope the years ahead bring greater safety and awareness, improved trust between people and nations, and international cooperation rather than wars. We hope our company and our instruments can contribute in productive ways to nuclear safety and reduction of the risk of nuclear conflict.
