Most homes are built wrong and most people don’t even realize it.

At our last Hard Hat Huddle, we broke down a major issue in residential construction: flex duct being used to run entire HVAC systems when it was never designed for that. Increased friction loss, airflow resistance, and poor performance are the result. It was meant for short runs not as a replacement for proper ductwork, but convenience and cost have made it the norm.

When systems are designed the right way, with hard pipe and real planning, the difference is clear: better airflow, improved efficiency, and often less tonnage needed.

It’s the difference between building for convenience and building it right.

“They didn’t not know… they just didn’t want to figure it out.”

That was a key takeaway from our last Hard Hat Huddle. Too often in construction, answers sound confident, but they’re based on assumptions not real understanding. We talked through things like linear diffusers, airflow, CFMs, and slot design. All measurable, all critical, and all too often overlooked because they require extra effort to truly get right.

The difference between a good build and a bad one? Asking the right questions, verifying the details, and not accepting something just because it sounds right.
