Just a reminder to change the air filters in your air systems. Watching our health and the cleanliness of our environment is still a top, top, top priority even if we weren't in a season known for pollen allergens (and we still are). Changing the air filter should be as important as wiping down surfaces and washing clothes after an outing for the time being and the air around us we don't have as much control over. The air filter in the house is one of the few ways we can control it.

Are you familiar with ductwork condensation? It's exactly what it sounds like - condensation forming on the ductwork going throughout your house. Water v***r forms on ductwork when warm, humid air gets into contact with cold surfaces and the HVAC ductwork in your house is often accruing that as it works.

As you might guess, water forming in places that have little in the way of adequate drying space while maintaining a constant is a great way to get mold and weakened insulation, among other issues that come with water leaks. "Will turning the heat down really low while I’m at work help me save money?"

I'm afraid not. When you turn it back up the system has to work harder to meet temperature. Most systems in the area are heat pumps with supplemental electric heat. Electric heat strips pull 4-6 times as much electricity as the heat pump. We recommend turning the thermostat to 65 if you’re going to be away for a while.

Not necessarily. Changing your filters regularly will be more important than the price, style or material of the filters. We recommend replacing your filter when you receive your electric bill each month. Some of the pleated filters can reduce airflow by up to 20%.
