In 1919, a young Alice H. Parker obtained a patent for an advanced type of heating system, which would be the forerunner to modern thermostat tech and zoned systems. She was an African American woman who attended Howard at the time, and some of her recorded history is murky, including a photo of someone else often attributed to her.
