‼️The text shown in the picture was part of a marketing email we received on May 27th. We have redacted the company name because we didn’t want to throw anyone under the bus, so to speak. Let’s talk about what is wrong.‼️
🧪"Too much shock creates chloramines." Nope! While it's true that people over-shock their pools (mostly because the companies selling shock want you to buy a ton of it), it doesn't create chloramines. Honestly, you should only shock when you actually need to, and regular sodium hypochlorite (liquid chlorine) works just as well as the expensive powders.
🔥"Breakpoint chlorination increases chlorine." Not quite. The actual science behind it means you end up with the exact same free chlorine level you started with, it just burns off the bad stuff (the chloramines).
🏊Watch out for Monopersulfate! If you run a commercial pool and use monopersulfate shocks, it will actually trick a standard test kit into showing free chlorine that isn't even there. You will need a secondary test kit to get an accurate reading.
🌊💙There is a lot of confusing and flat-out wrong information online. If you ever read something and aren't sure if it's true, just reach out to us! We love talking pool chemistry and are always here to help you figure out the basics. 🌊💙
