Get ready for the time change this weekend. Here in Michigan, we will return to Daylight Saving Time, On Sunday March 12th at 2 A M. The time will Spring forward 1 hour.
I change my clocks Saturday evening. I also find that this a good time to change the batteries in all my smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and my thermostat.
Most digital thermostats have batteries in them. If the batteries dies, the thermostat will not work and you could lose your heating or cooling. So please chek your batteries.
It is also important to regularly check your air filter in your furnace. A dirty filter will reduce air flow and efficiency of your furnace or air conditioning equipment.

If you have interruptable A/C service from your electric utility be prepared to have your a/c power interrupted today.
We field a lot of no cool calls when this happens.
The furnace fan will run but the outdoor unitwill cycle on and off with the power interruption.

Please remember to keep your vent pipes clear of snow.
Many of the higher efficiency furnaces and water heater vent thru PVC pipes out the side of homes. Blocking these with snow will cause the furnace or water heater to not operate properly.
Also clear snow from gas meter vents and fire hydrants.
A little extra work can save you or your neighbors from much bigger problems.

This weekend as we change our clocks back to standard time, don't forget to replace the batteries in you smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, and your thermostat. Most digital thermostats have batteries in them and we often get emergency no heat or no cooling calls and find that the batteries were bad in the thermostat.
It's also a good time to check and change your filters, and humidifier media.
As we get back into winter mode and start closing up our homes, it is important to think about air quality. We have many options to help improve the air quality and comfort in your home.

As you clear the recent snowfall, please take care to make sure you don't block your air vents and exhaust. Today's hi efficiency furnaces and water heaters vent to the outdoors thru PVC plastic pipes. If they become clogged or blocked with snow or ice the equipment will shut down. Also make sure the gas meter and/or regulator are not blocked as this can prevent proper gas pressure from reaching you gas appliances.

Some of the season's coldest weather is headed our way. Is your heating system up to the task. We're here to help you get thru this.

If you use space heaters to supplement your heating system, make sure they are in good condition, and kept away from flammable materials. Keep children and pets away from them. If you have water pipes that run near outside walls wrap them in piping insulation to keep them from freezing, or let them run a trickle of water thru the faucets to prevent freezing. Open cabinet doors to allow heat into the space near sinks in kitchens and baths.

Don't forget to check on family and friends to make sure they are OK.
Bring pets inside they get cold too!!! Make sure they have a warm and safe place during these frigid times.

It's a good time to check your furnace filter.
As we approach the month of February, we get a lot of calls of insufficient heat. A good deal of these turn out to be from dirty or blocked air filters. People like to replace them in the fall before the season really gets going, but by mid-winter the air filters become increasingly dirty and slow the airflow thru the system.
