The RAT Worked on the Clock

As many of you know, The RAT started working on clocks 8 years ago...he have met a lot of people and have seen/serviced many unusual clocks.

With that being said, The RAT just doesn't have the time to dedicate to the business to offer that quality of work he requires. The RAT appreciate everyone who has reached out to him about working on clocks, but he am getting out of the business.

The RAT had a great honor bestowed upon his a few weeks ago...a Decatur County Commissioner (Chuck Emsweller) contacted The RAT because the clock in the Decatur County Courthouse (the one with the tree growing out of it) had quit working. The RAT was able to climb up and diagnose the trouble and is working on getting new parts to get it back up and running for the citizens of Decatur County.

As most of you know, The RAT is not fond of electric or battery powered clocks...when he saw this beauty (The RAT had one exactly like this when he was younger) at a New Years Day auction, he had to have it. The clock is dated 1974 on the back and the movement is mechanical. The voice box is battery powered and did not work...after working about 2 hours on it, The RAT got the voice box to work. Doesn’t sound too bad considering it is 46 years old!!!

The RAT wants to brag a little on his great customers...I returned two clocks tonite to customers and when he presented them with their invoices, both customers said that The RAT did not charge them enough for the work and paid double the invoice amount!! Both customers stated they have more clocks that they are going to bring to The RAT since his prices are so low!! Thank you for the business and the generous tips!!

It is that time of year again!!! Saturday night, your clocks will "fall back" an hour. To do this on a mechanical clock (mantle clock, grandfather/grandmother clock, wall clock, cuckoo clocks) you have two choices...stop the clock and then restart it 11 hours later or run the hands forward for 11 hours. Please make sure if you run the hands around, you stop and let the clock cycle through any chimes before continuing. And if your clock has quarter chimes, make sure the melody stops before going to the next stop. And please, DON'T RUN YOUR HANDS BACKWARDS!!!! This could possible damage the movement and then you will have a visit from The RAT. If you have and questions or issues resetting your clock, give The RAT a shout!!

The RAT had a busy day today...started out early and moved a customer's clock from one house to another. After that, the I.U. clock was delivered to Greensburg and set up. Both clocks are doing great!!

Another great find for The RAT & Mrs. RAT at The Trusty Gavel Auction. This is a vintage Russian Submarine Clock!! Does any of The RAT's friends read Russian?? He needs to figure out the maker of this clock!!!
