Today I had the honor to be operate my crane at a Mennonite Barn raising. 30-40 members of the community stopped whatever they had planned for the day and showed up to help one community member build his barn. From 5 to 85 years old all helped. I am moved by this community spirit. We stopped for lunch and the experience was moving. As the only person there from outside of the community I was made to feel quite at home.
My take away for the day or rather the gift I felt was the good old fashioned sense of neighbors helping each other and enjoyment and pleasure in doing so. This community lives an ‘old fashioned lifestyle’ that perhaps we should all take heed of in the crazy world we live in.
