Heritage Woodworks, Inc. Licensed GC * Custom Homes * Authentic Timbercraft * Reclaimed Wood & Mantel Sales * Custom Milling

Heritage Woodworks holds itself to the highest industry standards and is passionate about our work as both a licensed general contractor and retailer of handcrafted furniture, reclaimed wood, rough sawn lumber, and custom milling services. While we oversee a variety of construction contracts across all architectural vernaculars, we are most widely recognized for our handcrafted work with reclaimed

wood, logs, and timbers in delivering projects that are rooted in history, yet progressive in both design and amenities. Whether we're serving as the general contractor on a custom residence, building an heirloom-quality furnishing, adding timber details to a new commercial space, or fulfilling a custom milling or reclaimed wood order, we treat each project and customer interaction with the same degree of attention, timeliness, and commitment to quality. Company owner and licensed general contractor, Matt Hill, has over 16 years' construction experience, including 11 years in rustic style construction as a Site Supervisor & Log/Reclaimed Timber Craftsman for one of Montana's premier rustic home contractors. Over the course of his construction career, he has had the privilege of supervising and helping build custom home projects in Montana's exclusive Yellowstone Club that later received press in national publications. Returning to his WY roots in 2012, he formed Heritage Woodworks in fall 2014.

In 2020, we occasionally shared about incoming reclaimed wood deliveries. But none of those posts would lead one to guess that we processed and repurposed nearly 300,000 pounds of reclaimed wood this year! With our on-site kiln, industrial planer, straight line rip saw, moulder, and combo wire wheel/flap sander machine, we were able to turn our raw reclaimed wood deliveries into thousands of board feet of siding, flooring, interior trim, ceiling board and wall board packages, timber packages, and material for our custom doors, cabinets, and furniture. It was definitely one of our biggest growth areas in 2020 and one we’re looking forward to further expanding in 2021! Swipe to see pictures of some of our finished products!

Next up on our missed moments of 2020 (check out yesterday’s post if you didn’t catch it yet) is this sweet old schoolhouse. Thought to possibly be one of the three rural Dutch Creek schools that operated in the Sheridan area from the early to mid 1900s, this schoolhouse received a significant facelift thanks to the vision of its owners and the willingness of to incorporate it into the homeowners’ new custom home design. Outfitted with a new roof, new windows, upgraded insulation, some siding repairs, a fresh coat of classic red paint, and new interior trims and plaster, this schoolhouse now serves as the perfect guest room while retaining its original wood wainscot and time-worn wood flooring.

Swipe to see its transformation from forgotten days of old to its big moving day to its in-process renovation and finished exterior.

2020 has been quite a year, and through it, we haven’t always posted about the many great things we’ve been up to here at Heritage Woodworks. So, during this last week of this unforgettable year, we’re looking back and sharing a few moments we missed along the way.

First up, one of our most memorable houses this year had us stacking and trimming straw bales for insulation. Designed by , the home incorporated 14” thick bales on all exterior walls, but you’d never guess by looking at it now. Outside, the home retains its refined rustic charm with reclaimed oak siding, while inside the bales are finished with plaster. The home’s emphasis on green building also included spray foam insulation made out of recycled plastic bottles, ground source heat, and a grey water system.

Swipe to see the straw bale transformation from initial stacking to base coat to finished plaster and exterior siding!

Living life with a spirit of gratitude is a defining principle for us no matter the season, but on Thanksgiving we’re especially reminded of our many blessings - - our family and friends; the opportunity to work in America and pursue our dreams; our clients, colleagues, and employees who help make this business possible; our faith that guides us daily - - the list is truly endless. And so it is with grateful hearts that we thank everyone who has been part of our year in 2020 and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
